The Solihull Approach antenatal course gives parents practical information about pregnancy and birth whilst at the same time introducing them to their baby. It explains how and why those around this baby are so important.

It integrates the traditional information given on an antenatal course with a new approach to starting your relationship with this baby before the baby even makes an appearance.

• Helping you and your baby through pregnancy and birth

• Getting to know your baby in the womb

• You, your baby and the stages of labour

• Helping you and your baby through labour and birth

• Feeding your baby

• After your baby is born.

TENS may also be useful while you're at home in the early stages of labour or if you plan to give birth at home. TENS is believed to work by stimulating the body to produce more of its own natural painkillers, called endorphins. It also reduces the number of pain signals sent to the brain by the spinal cord.

TENS machines can be hired for a 4 week period at a cost of £10 for hire and £10 deposit. Please contact our children centres for availability.

We explore these areas by supporting parents to look at the world as your child may view it, with a very sensory approach, breaking down the senses and what being sensory means and how this in turn impacts on the session areas. From understanding this we can begin to develop a greater understanding of how your child develops while also supporting their complex needs and in turn create a more Intune parent/child relationship.

Available at various Family Hubs around the city, one on every day!  No need to book.

All of our Family Hubs are breastfeeding friendly.

Latch On groups are support sessions for women who are pregnant and those currently breastfeeding and want to learn more about its benefits.

The groups are run by trained Peer Support Workers who can support with positioning and attachment, discuss cluster feeding, feeding cues, expressing milk and what to expect in those early days and weeks, supporting you to achieve your breastfeeding goals.

A nursing bra fitting service is also available. and we have a limited number of nursing bras available to buy.

Peer Supporters are also able to complete referrals for Tongue Tie.

Breast Pump Hire

Breast pumps can be hired from the following Family Hubs only:

·         Rees in Plympton - 01752 340550

·         Four Woods in West Park- 01752 366795

·         Nomony in Cattedown - 01752 261844

 These pumps are highly recommended by Midwives and Latch on Peer supporters. They can be hired for a 4-week period at a cost of £20. If you would like to extend the Breast Pump please contact your local Family Hub. There will be a guide booklet of how to use the breast pump and 2 sterile packs will be provided. Within the sterile packs there will be the standard size flanges, if you require a different size, we can provide these. A Measuring guide will be given for you to measure your nipple. Once a flange has been given out, there will be no exchange for a different size if it doesn't fit. The pump can be taken without the correct flange size, there is no return to collect the flange if this is the case. Flanges can be purchased from a well-known online retailer. Cash Only.

When returning the breast pump please dispose of all items regarding the sterile packs.
