Aging population is affected by global issues such as pandemics, the moving of people who escape from war. Ageing is also a global issue. It is projected that by 2050, the number of individuals aged 65 years or above across the world will be twice the number of children under age 5 and almost equivalent to the number of children under 12 years.

The Aging as a global issue

The percentage of the global population aged 65 and above is expected to rise from 10% in 2022 to 16% in 2050. The proportion of people aged 65 years and above is increasing at a faster rate than those below that age. This means the number of seniors is bigger and the number of young people is smaller. Now aging is a global issue. Aging can affect economic growth and many other issues. In Japan, more than 1 in 10 people are now aged 80 or older. This ageing problem will be connected with economic issues. Japan's GDP is expected to drop by about 5 percent because the percentage decline in effective labor is larger than the fall in the number of workers.

Why this problems happen

Also, aging is related to other global issues. Immigration makes the population younger. The aging population is affected by a variety of things and changes. And it is affected by a low birth rate. If many people don't want to have babies, the number of younger people will go lower and the number of seniors will go higher.

What global citizens can do

Advocating for positive change at the local, national, and global levels, we can contribute to solving the challenges of an aging population and promoting a more included and age-friendly society for people of all ages. And we shouldn't be prejudiced towards seniors who could be our future.
