Describe the key characters.
1. Max - A very imaginative/ playful boy who lets his imagination take him to 'Where the Wild Things Are'
2. Monsters - intimidating; terrible eyes/claws/teeth/roars
- Timid (when Max stared into their yellow eyes, they got scared)
- Playful

Why would children connect with them?
1. They want to be like Max to rule the monsters. (Having authority) Children in reality also tend to get very engrossed in their own thoughts (adventurous), forgetting what they actually have to do (e.g Max ended with the hot supper still on his bed)

2. The Wild Things - The children connect with the animals as they also have an adventurous side. They tend to dramatise movements related to animals. (E.g marching, swinging around, causing a ruckus)
- Children may also find the monsters to be cool

1. Themes: Discovery, Escape
2. The theme Discovery is relatable as young children tend to be curious about the world around them and this book can give some insight into their fantasies and assist them in their imagination.
The theme Escape provides them with an alternate reality where they don't have to face real life problems or pressures.

1. Max was naughty and was sent to bed without supper. He imagined going into a different world.
2. Relatable to children - they are naughty and get punished. Children have a wild sense of imagination.
