There is two different types of Monarchy Elected Monarchy and Hereditary Monarchy. Elected Monarchy is when the King/Queen is elected by the people. A Hereditary Monarchy is when its passed down by a family. Queen Elizabeth 2 is a hereditary monarch but she has no political power. 
  The Queen is just the face of the government the parliament has all the political power. The government can either be more like a Democracy or and autocracy.
