Q1. Why is it important to remember, restore, reinterpret and reconnect with past and future generations?

Green Group
-
- We need to understand the view our ancestors had for the future, to know what we need to do.
- No one is excluded from the Great Law
-Bringing people back to the clear mind
-Informing others about the past
- reconnecting, remembering, and restoring the past teachings helps to bring for healthy ways of being and compassion
- Traditions can be relearned, as they are part of the earth. Those songs and teachings are still there, it is just waiting for the reconnection to happen. When we find that place of centre it will happen, it is not about regaining that knowledge but about reconnecting.
- To take back what may have been lost/ taken away and reconnect
-To learn how to take care of your family
-Connecting to the past helps make clear the hope for the future

Red Group
- It is dangerous to use English words to describe what we have been doing for so long.
- We always had a voice, There are always people who have been fighting. It is not a resurgence, but we have always had our voice and they cannot silence us. Especially with the rise of social media.
- We need to know where we came from so we can know where we are going. The youth can learn from us, the elders can learn from the youth. As children, we are connect with our parents, as adolescents we need to connect with our elders. We need to pay attention to our loved ones and our youth that are struggling with right now. What we can learn from them we could empower them even more.
Indigenous thoughts are not like English thoughts, our thoughts are through songs
- When you sing a song, you are speaking to those that are present
- There are original instructions given to all Indigenous people given to the world, to interpret this it will be hard to. To remember the gifts we were given, for all to know those gifts that were inherently given to us
- That children can teach us and hold that light
- Connect w/ the past to heal the disconnect. By carrying some of the burden that my family has been unable to finish, to tie those knots. I feel that I cannot connect with my ancestors because I cannot speak the language, but I am learning that.
- Find yourself in a new environment
- It is important because you can be that knowledge holder to pass on the knowledge from the Elders to the youth, teaching the traditional teachings and ways of being
- To let my children know that you should be proud to be who you are, to accept and love yourself.
- If you don't know who you are, you can seek out help.
- Knowing who you are helps you figure out where you want to go
- It's important to find out who you are, where you come from because it's important to know who you are.
- Responsibilities of both parties (elders and youth), adults responsibilities to teach about the past and our responsibility of youth to open our ears and seek more knowledge. For our elders cannot make us who we want to be if we do not grow ourselves
- To hold onto the experiences we have had as a community, as children, to carry those memories and experiences forward into our adult lives to bring them back to pass them onto the next generation
- All those bad behaviours we learned, we can unlearn
- With the interaction we have as children until we are adults, it is all a learning experience, our entire life, from the womb we start to learn. The things we have done together as a community is important to acknowledge as a community, for what I learned as a child has helped me reconnect.

Q2. What are important values and teachings that could (and perhaps should) be passed down to future generations?

Green Group
- These teachings can change the world, if more people understood it
- the 7 Grandfather Teachings, allowed me to think about my way of being and how I interacted with others. How I kept myself and my mind healthy
- To remind each other how to be human and reconnect with each other
- Learning through the relationships you have in your life. Relationship to the earth, to the animal, to the land, to your culture, family, etc.
- To learn through following the footsteps (like an apprenticeship) under the elders, family, etc. Having them gain hands on experience, being directly involved and growing with those teachings and understandings every day.
- To have our people and youth to go to ceremonies, events, gatherings etc. Through experience you will learn the different teachings, stories and understandings.

Red Group
- As Anishinaabe people (the original people) we are all beautiful and distinct.
- All nations have their own stories and teachings. The word, Indigenous, is a melting pot of all of those. When you blend stories, it's harder to understand which is which. There will be similarities between the stories and the ways of living.
- To know you are your own light, your source of good power. To teach them they should know this and to love themselves.
- Teaching the values and teachings of the good life, good path. To leave the bad behind and pass the good onto my children

Q3. How can educational institutions support resurgence within individual, family, and community contexts?

Green Group
- In this institution, we are rooting people to fail but that is not a part of who we are
- Help students find that balance between obtaining their education and being spiritually healthy
- Lessen the pressure students face/deal with in coming to postsecondary
- To incorporate the 7 grandfather teachings in everything that is done
- Reconciliation is a plastic word,
- Vision requires a transformation at one point, what you're looking at now will have a lot of transformation and you'll end up with something new
- Going to an institution, you become institutionalized which can affect you
- Sometimes they have to step back and allow the community to grow, to encourage the students to understand they are the community. To hold these principals as sacred. To allow them to reclaim the teachings, so when they move up they can carry it with them
- The infrastructure doesn't allow for change to flow through
- Want for land based practices (learn to hunt, fish, etc)
- By having communities coming into the university field to do events such as pow wows, there are so many policies they must adhere too that actually limits or lowers the positive outcome and interaction that was meant by these gatherings
- We need consistent funding
- Universities should not take over community events, but should support it by allowing it to take its own course and place
- Community groups that would normally do these community gatherings, are now second in line as Universities and colleges have more money, support to do these events. Need to continue to involve grassroots community support and the community in much more decision making etc.
- Doing some of the work already, through community events in the past. Able to incorporate more within the educational institution through traditional teachings.
- Reconciliation is another term used by colonizers, it is not our word
- Keeping the tradition alive through teaching others, to welcome those who do not know so they can learn and grow.
- To build a small community around campuses, to build indigenous villages. By bringing the village back to the campuses, to bring them back to the earth based resurgence. Not just thinking, but the actual action of doing.

Red Group
- We can do small parts as an education institution, but many of our people want to practice our ceremonies, get our teachings, but this can't always be done in institutions, it can in small ways. But we can go to local communities, to work together to do this. The educational institutions should work together and connect together to support all indigenous communities for their own well being.
- To create those policies to bring in positive changes.
- Education and awareness, it has come a long way in comparison to the education systems in the past. The voices can finally be heard.
- As children, we are full of our artistic side, quote Picasso, about children losing their artistic connections as they grow older
- You must be willing to listen, to act, and to move forward
- What happened last night was a taste for what is to be said, if you like that taste it is you now to take that first step. It is your job to pursue that. We can have elders give teachings, if people aren't listening then it is just words.
- It takes courage to speak, and courage to listen and act too
- These are good places for a start, but not a good place to support it.
- You cannot reclaim it (the Arb) for you cannot harvest trees, deer etc. You will have a very hard time doing Anishinaabe things
- Where can we go to have a lodge, a sacred space here? We cannot do it here in the building
- I don't think they can, they can provide a good space but they cannot support that.
- As an institution and faculty, we have that moral responsibility through our curriculum and institution. Through the understanding of history, we have to acknowledge we are privileged to be here and to learn from those who live here and have been here
- To return to the beginning to check in, a full circle. To continue to be a part of the life long learning journey
- To have autonomy, to be a healthy leader you need to a healthy person.
- Bringing past experiences forward to other places, to support and help others
- By having a place to teach, we can provide the teachings to others to know the good life through a meeting place
- Having steps back to the roadway through support, working to reconnect those strands to strengthen them together
- To have a gathering place to provide teachings and a safe place
