You are a liar, slander, a scoundrel. You came to accuse this man, you have justified him; you wanted to destroy him, you have succeeded only in glorifying him. “ (P.389)

Previously Marius was mad at Jean valjean because he was a convict. In this quote it demonstrates how Marius is defending Jean valjean’s reputation by analysing the real things that occurred. Although Marius was stubborn he demonstrate his forgiveness by accepting and opposing to the Thenarieds word for Jean’s good reputation.

Her measure of unhappiness was a full as yours of happiness. “ (P.398)

This quote demonstrates Jean is telling the truth that the Thenardiers made Cosette suffer a lot, despite of the suffering they lived they should forgive the Thenardier. I believe that Jean is saying so because if you do not forgive you will live in constant misery like Javert did.

All that he had of feeling and affection was arouse and vehemently attracted towards this child” (P.123).

Jean ValJean was taken back to prison, but he decided to fake his death to save Cosette from the innkeepers.I believe that what Jean Valjean did was wrong but he did it for the fate of the child. Once Jean lives with the company of Cosette he feels happy as if he were a new man.

One glance had done all that. ” (P. 197)

This quote demonstrates that Marius fell in love with Cosette just by watching her, and this explains why he watched her everyday. I think that just by following Cosette and spending her time just watching her demonstrates that he would do anything to be with her and this also shows how strong is his love towards her.
