On work 1, the process I can see is inspiring on how you used hidden layers as a way of expression. Seeing the inside of the apple and that being a hidden message for layers of a person provides me a feeling of introspection. Some elements of art I noticed in this work are definitely color, the texture, and the space inside the apple. All three of these elements are extremely defined and stand out very well which makes this piece feel more expressive as a whole.

The elements of design I see in this artwork most prominently are the proportions of the apple, the emphasis, and again the color. There is also a fair amount of contrast which divides the inside of the apple from the outside, allowing for my eye to travel to every part.

I think you achieved putting lots of emotion into this artwork. The mood this artwork makes me feel the most is somewhere between reflection, and reminiscence. It reminds me of something deep inside myself.

Overall, this artwork is very successful in creating a strong mood and feeling, and the composition is very well put together as an entirety. As I’ve said before, the feelings this artwork instills in me is a calm reflection of my own being, and the elements of both art and design work together well in this piece.

Work #4 is a large, decent sized paper (12” x 9”) made with Prisma Colors (colored pencils) and a ruler. The main subjects of the work are the artist’s present and future self. You can see a house and clock that she is holding onto. The use of color, value, and texture is evident in the piece. Lighter colors are associated with her future self while darker colors make up the background and her present self, displaying contrast. The colored pencils give texture to her skin, house, and hair. I think the artist achieved conveying the emotions that come with letting go of the past. The composition ties into this, with her present self laying across the page holding on tightly to her childhood home. We then see her future self stretching from the background to offer a comforting hand, which appears large to show proportion, perspective, and movement. The meaning of the work, from what I can infer, is that dwelling in the past causes you to be stuck in a negative loop of emotions. I feel that this loop is symbolized by the clock, which goes round and round. You shouldn’t let these feelings linger because there’s always hope for the future. The artwork is successful in creating a strong theme of letting go, despite how difficult it may be, of the past and learning to move on.

Additionally, with the use of exaggerated lines, the spirals create almost a food looking twist, reminding me of layered onions.

Value: The Artist uses Value to create depth within her piece, the shadows on the lips, spirals and eye give it a more realistic and exciting look that’s interesting to look at.

*Analyzing:

Organization - The artist of this piece organized the piece by creating depth within the layered swirls, while leaving the eyeball and the mouth in the spotlight.

3 Principles of Designs -

Emphasis: The Artist expresses the principles of Emphasis within the lips and eyeball to create a striking contrast between the facial features and spirals. The eyeball and lips have a more realistic appearance compared to the layered spirals, so it adds a really nice touch that adds to the piece overall.

Unity: The Artist’s use of repeated spirals, consistent linework and stippling, and a limited color palette all work together to create a strong sense of unity, making the artwork feel visually cohesive.

Repetition: The Artist’s repeated use of a specific shape, texture, and line style creates a sense of visual repetition, making the entire composition feel cohesive and interconnected.

*Interpreting:

Description: The artwork uses a combination of an exposed eye, repetitive spirals, and a mouth that evokes a powerful emotional response centered on feelings of anxiety and a deep sense of internal struggle.

Symbolism: The image of the eye creates a symbol of tragedy and truth that’s constantly surrounded by the overwhelming forms of the spirals.

*Judging

View #2: The artwork that I viewed for my critique creates a significantly strong mood with the expressed spirals and facial features placed around the piece. I get an overwhelming expression of internal struggle of being constantly suppressed in negative situations.

I would really love to see some extra facial features and or more emotion expressed. I love your works and all the repetition placed in the piece, but I would love to see your experiment with color!

Work 2- Britney G

Describing:

I see thorns wrapped around a hand reaching out for something but it is restricting it, it seems almost like an overwhelming feeling having to be pushed off from your wants, which in a deeper level can see frustrating.

It 9.7 inches & 6.94

Digital for medium

Texture because there is a lot of detailed marks on the hand.

line because the lining of the art makes everything super neat.

form the way that the hand is in position to describe for it’s pushing away makes it give what its meaning is trying to tell.

Analyzing: I believe what the artist achieved in their art work was using specifically the thorns as the “restriction” a very brilliant idea.

Movement plays out in this piece a lot I can envision the arm moving towards the top while the thorns push the opposite way, color plays well too the hand being bright as representing hope on my side and the black on the thorns representing darkness and negativity.

The mood seems very overwhelming as I have said before and a very relatable piece anyone could deeply feel, since I believe anyone could look at this and think of a memory where they can connect to it.

Judging: over all the piece takes huge success and very understanding even without explanation, the artist did really well showing pain and restriction in this piece I will love to see thorns in their pieces more, it is very symbolic and a possibility; the artist can challenge themselves to make thorns seem as positive for future pieces.

The way the worms intertwine and work with the piece while also leaving areas with nothing, allows all of it to almost play together and create a united piece.

Texture: The Artist uses texture as an element by incorporating lines on the doll’s face, moss like abrasions on the face, and the texture on the worms to give them a more realistic look. All of this texture used really helps the art speak for itself, I love all the different uses of texture within just one piece.

*Analyzing:

Organization - The Artist of this piece organized her artwork by creating a sense of unity, she uses the worms crawling in and out of the face and a senseless appearance on the face to create the work as a whole.

3 Principles of Designs -

Rhythm - The artist demonstrates rhythm through the repeated, flowing of the worms within the sculpture. The continuous and twisting worms are a visual repetition that really helps unite the piece. This restating of a single, fluid motif creates a sense of movement and repetition, making the worms feel almost dynamic and alive.

Unity - This artist uses unity by making all of the components of the sculpture feel as if they belong together. The continuous worms, which seem to be found all over the piece, links all of the parts of the artwork together. Additionally, with the use of texture all over the piece, it continuously unites the piece through the artist using different textures within all parts.

*Interpreting:

Description - The artwork is a three-dimensional sculpture, a grim doll face. It has a rough texture, giving it a weathered, moldy appearance. The color palette is muted and sickly, with a pale, grayish-tan for the face's base and patches of green that suggest decay or discoloration. Emerging from the face's surface are thick worms in muted colors of blue and purple. These worms are positioned in the eye sockets and mouth area, adding to the unsettling, creepy aesthetic. The overall form is lumpy and irregular, reinforcing the idea that it is old, worn, and perhaps deteriorating.

Symbolism: The doll, which used to be a clean surface, now looks gross and scary. The worms and the moldy parts symbolize decay and neglect. The artist is saying that when something is abandoned, it breaks down and gets "eaten away" by time.

*Judging

View #2: The artwork is very much successful in creating a strong mood of decay and something being changed overtime. I love the way all of it comes together to form this aged look, while also remaining to own single color palette.

As a change, maybe create a contrasting doll face to add onto the story more. You can making a newly manufactured doll, as a way to contrast the before to the after. I feel like that would be a really good touch to this piece, and create almost a timeline which I feel elevates the piece.

Before it moved to the background with what appeared to be an eastern dragon mid violent action. Working more on that shadows and mid tones would give a lot of detail and make the hairdryer pop from the busy background.

1: I see a very on going and dull art style, it has many different techniques and mediums used. The process seems like there’s multiple steps towards it, like using different brush techniques and going through the whole drawing with multiple shades and shadows and adding lighter values in the drawing. It’s a very beautiful style in my eyes. Work two seems to show many objects such as a weapon, and nature. The size seems medium and very well laid out, like the space used up was very productive and perfect. I see shape, like the moon, the circle of the car lights noticing the fact that circles were also used up in the artwork to create shape, and the way the trees were made as well as human objects, I see texture, by the way the brush techniques were used? And I see value, a bunch of shading.

2: I think the artist used the composition by laying out where certain objects would go and the way the space was used in the drawing. There was definitely beautiful perspective added in and made the drawing come all together. Perspective was key in this artwork, even by the way the wolf was more on the upper side and the human was more on the lower side setting off a vibe. I noticed contrast, how one part of the drawing was based off of one color and the other part was based off a different color. I saw proportion by the size and the way the characters were laid out in the drawing. And I noticed variety by the way the wolf and human were genuinely attracted towards each other(not in a relationship kind of way.)

3: The work looks like it has HEAVY emotion and a genuine spooked out vibe. It gives off spooky and haunted vibes in a beautiful way. It also gives off a dark mood and heavy fighting vibe.

4: My viewing on it is the artwork is successful and genuinely creates a strong deep emotion when you’re just looking at it, being heavily focused and analyzing. You can see the fear and frustration the character has developed over the wolf and it gives off a good realistic emotion towards and actually human being like they’re alive in the artwork. You absolutely rocked it with this art piece and I am LIVING for it. The emotions are beautiful and feel absolutely real, like I can just feel what the character is feeling!

Step 1: I think the 10 by 10 size for the painting is perfect. Also the way you made textures with the acrylic paint like the fur and marks in the street. The angle that the animal is at is also captivating with the road. The paints used create contrast and also blend in together. It sends a message of how the road and possum kind of blend in, but it was the tail that was ran over.

Step 2: I like the emphasis on the tail creates a strong feeling. The movement in the street is also intriguing. The variety of texture and technique you used to create the fur is amazing.

Step 3: The mood is very isolating and wretched. It reminds me of a lot of real life scenarios with animals being run over and people just ignoring it, the way only the tail was ran over just shows that the situation could have been avoided.

Step 4: (view 2/3)

The emphasis, texture, and values all together makes this composition successful in creating a mood that can be relatable and reflected in the real word. The elements are also greatly applied to each other.

Work 1:

Describe-

The height is 8.5 in and the width is 5.5 in. It is created with black micron pens which were used to outline the watercolor paint. It features a representation of the artist’s head on top of a wound-up jack-in-the-box. You can see the elements of color, line, and texture within this piece.

Analyze-

The jack and the box with the artists head is the main focus of the piece. Within this artwork you can see the elements of space, especially in the empty space on the right side of the piece, which emphasizes how the artist is looking in that direction at something out of frame, presumably whoever wound up the jack-in-the-box. There is emphasis on the face, which is painted the brightest color in the piece, and there is unity created in the way the blue-green of the hand that’s wound-up the jack-in-the-box ties into the blue-green of the artist’s hair.

Interpret-

The serious expression of the face contrasts with the whimsical nature of the drawing of such an odd fictional situation, and an almost tense mood is created by the expression of the face and the way it’s looking at something out of view from the viewers.

Judge-

I think the artwork is pretty successful in creating an interesting contrast in the whimsical mood conveyed by the situation and the more serious mood conveyed by the facial expression. The mood and ideas conveyed by the piece could also be further played around with by changing the facial expression or the place the eyes are looking.

Work 5:

Describe-

The height of the piece is 6 in and the width is 17 in. It is created with pastels and black charcoal. The artist sketched the outline with charcoal and pastel then filled in the background. The work shows a music bar and three people listening to the music. Elements of color are present in the choice to make the background bright orange and the people and music a contrasting blue and green. Line is utilized in the people and the music bar and space is utilized in between the people and the music.

Analyze-

Principles of art used throughout the piece include movement, which is created in the way viewers eyes are drawn across the piece by the music bar, giving the impression the people along the bottomed are one in in the same and we’re seeing them move like a stop motion movie across the piece to the music. Unity is created through the even spacing of the people and the music bar, with the uniform orange background tying them together. Balance is also created through the even spacing of the subjects.

Interpret-

The piece has an uplifting and energetic mood, created by the bright orange and the jagged lines of music, as well as the facial expressions of the people. The music has a central role in the piece, shown by the music bar featuring along the top and the headphones all the people are wearing. The energetic and uplifting mood of the piece and the people in the piece can be assumed to be because of the music.

Judge-

This piece is successful in the way it very strongly portrays the artist’s passion for music to the viewers.

The way you use the graphite makes makes the castle look edgy, or as if it’s seen its fair share of conflicts. Then the rocks cover the bottom, making it a tad more landscape. Everything is quite balanced, making the whole thing look complete.

I feel the mood is slightly somber (due to the grays), but also awe-inspiring. You want to see more. Maybe the history of the castle, the events and conflicts it’s seen… etc. You can see the bricks well, which makes the building look intricate and real. This was quite successful. No doubt about it.

The main subjects I see it the castle and the rocks I also see the artist incorporated value, space, and form in the back you can see negative space and see value within the main subjects and form within the castle.

- The artist achieved the detail within her architectural drawing. I notice that the rocks take up 50% of the piece while the castle takes up the rest. Some principles of design she included repetition in the castle texture w/ some added value , she also balance in her composition, and also included a variety of forms and sizes of the towers.

-The piece gives me a gloomy dark mood the value and the lack of color the rocks make it seem threatening due how tall they are.

- The artwork could have enhance the mood more by getting rid of the negative space and adding a storm cloud or something to make the mood more gloomy.

- Jasmine

Step 1: Describing

(Size, Medium, and Process)

This is a digital painting (19×15 inches), created using Photoshop on a tablet. The artist used a sketch, a color gradient, and played with dramatic lighting to set the scene.

(Subjects and Objects)

The main subjects are a terrified man holding a revolver and a monstrous werewolf looming directly behind him. The werewolf has glowing orange eyes and its claws rest on a car hood. The scene is set in a dark forest under an orange moon.

(Elements of Art)

Color: The palette is dark (reds, browns, blues). The bright orange-red of the moon and the werewolf's eyes creates high contrast, emphasizing danger.

Value (Light/Dark): Extreme contrast is used. A harsh, bright light hits the figures, making them intensely visible against the black shadows of the background, creating drama.

Texture: The artist implies rough, thick fur on the werewolf versus smooth, reflective metal on the car/gun. This highlights the raw, animalistic nature of the threat.

Step 2 analyzing

(Artist's Achievement)

The artist succeeded in making the piece look like a horror movie poster. The intense lighting and clear action create a terrifying, visually striking, and dramatic moment of confrontation

(Compositional Organization)

The artwork is organized by a strong diagonal line (werewolf and car) that guides the eye from the light and the man's fear (bottom right) toward the threat (top left). Placing the werewolf in the upper half makes it loom over the man, creating a feeling of claustrophobia.

(Principles of Design)

Emphasis/Focal Point: The brightest light hits the man's horrified face and the gun, making the central point of action and terror the main focus.

Contrast: Extreme use of light vs. dark values and the opposition between the man's fear and the werewolf's rage creates a high-impact scene.

Movement: The dynamic poses (man recoiling, werewolf striking) imply a quick, sudden action that is about to happen.

Step 3 interpreting

(Mood and Meaning)

The mood is intensely terrifying and full of despair. The meaning is about raw, existential horror: being trapped in a terrifying situation where survival looks impossible against an overwhelming, destructive force.

Symbolism

Werewolf: A classic symbol of uncontrollable, savage nature and primal fear

Revolver: Symbolizes a futile, last-ditch attempt at self-defense.

Dark Forest/Red Moon: Symbolize a setting where rational rules are gone and a dangerous, supernatural world has taken over.

Step 4 (judge)

Aesthetic View #2: Content

This artwork is highly successful based on the Content view because it creates a strong mood and feeling.

The artist's masterful use of light, shadow, and color successfully generates an atmosphere of pure, unadulterated fear and panic. The viewer doesn't just look at the scene; they feel the imminent threat of the creature and the terror of the man. The artwork fully succeeds in its goal of conveying the intense content and atmosphere of a horror story.

Work 3!

Step 1: Describing

Size, Medium, and Process: The artwork is small, measuring inches high by inches wide. The medium is ink on orange paper, using fine-tipped Pigma Micron pens (, , and). The process involved using exaggerated hatching and stippling (dots) techniques to build the image.

Subjects and Objects: The main subject is a stippled owl shown against a bright orange background. The owl has large, dark eye circles and appears composed entirely of dense black dots and ink lines. The overall impression is textured and slightly abstract.

Elements of Art:

Line: The entire image is built from thousands of tiny lines and dots (hatching/stippling). These simple lines are layered to create all the form and shading.

Shape: The artwork clearly shows the organic shape of an owl, but the shape's edges are soft and fuzzy due to the dot technique.

Color: The use of only black ink on bright orange paper creates a strong, simple contrast. This limited color choice emphasizes the texture and the concept.

Step 2 analyzing

(Artist's Achievement). The artist successfully defined the owl using only the stippling technique (dots and lines) and effectively linked their interest in animal pollution to the visual outcome.

(Composition). The owl is placed centrally on the canvas, making it the immediate focus. The heavy ink buildup at the bottom gives the image a sense of weight and grounding.

Principles of Design

1. Texture: The stippling technique creates a rough, gritty visual texture across the owl's body, which is key to the artwork's feeling.

2. Emphasis: The solid black eyes are immediately emphasized, capturing the viewer's attention and communicating the owl's strong presence.

3. Variety: The work shows variety in ink density—from dense black (eyes, bottom) to lighter dots—which creates the illusion of form and light.

Step 3 interpreting

Mood and Meaning

The mood is intense and stark. The gritty texture creates a feeling of vulnerability and raw exposure. The meaning is about environmental pollution, suggesting the animal is being damaged or fragmented by its habitat issues.

Symbolism

The Owl: Represents wildlife and the natural environment.

Gritty Texture: Symbolizes the impact of pollution and contamination.

Orange Background: Suggests a disrupted or toxic habitat.

Step 4: Judging

Aesthetic View #3: Composition

This artwork is successful based on the Composition view because the artist successfully used the elements and principles to make a good composition. The dense texture created by the line/stippling element is balanced by the empty orange space. The central emphasis on the owl's eyes and the variety in ink density create a well-organized and compelling visual statement.

The elements you used were line, space, and shape.

Step 2; analyzing: you organized your artwork by giving a lot of space for everything and the layout of the drawing. With line you used that on your whole drawing and used very a persiste mind of where to put things. And shape on everything as well for the cake and birthday hat.

Step 3;interpreted; I love your drawing and I love the way you drew it, your work gives off a very sad and lonely feeling. The bear representing just being alone and being excluded from everything on its birthday shows the feeling of depression and and isolation. Especially on his birthday and just being left out on everything has a big impact on this drawing.

Step 4; judging: your artwork successfully creates a strong mood of isolation and depression.

Work #5 is 8 x 9 inches made on paper with a sketching pencil and ink pens. The main subject of the work is the person, with a close up perspective on their face. Line is the most obvious element, using dark, thick lines on the facial features and hair. The cross-hatching technique is used to create shadow and form, seen in the wrinkles and around the eyes. Contrast between the dark hair and white background, which makes up the skin. I believe the artist achieved creating a dramatic, stressed, and intense look that reflects their emotions while illustrating it. The artwork gives a close up view of the subject’s face, focusing on the eyes and mouth. This composition displays emphasis by adding the most detail and shading to the eyes, adding to the expression of intense emotions. The repetitive lines used for hatching creates rhythm throughout the piece and the wavy lines seen in the hair creates a sense of movement. The artwork shows great expression of stress and internal struggles. Heavy, frantic lines symbolize and embody the agitation the artist experienced. The gritted teeth and strain on the face represent the effort of suppressing tense emotions. I would say the piece was highly successful in conveying these feelings and helps viewers understand where the artist is coming from. I love that you found a way to get your emotions out on a page and your style is a great inspiration for my ink pieces in the future.

1: I see very outlined lines and certain shading on various parts of the drawing. The size seems medium and there’s some spaces that have been left alone but some spaces that have been used directly for the drawing. The process seems very little but in the end adds up. I see sketching, outlining, and shading throughout the drawing. Some subjects I see is a firey aura and I don’t necessarily see objects but definitely a creature. Elements I see are line, shape, and space. The line was used to create the final subject, the shape was used to create different aspects, and the space was used to form a certain size.

2: I think the artist achieved shading for sure, it looks very well done and definitely adds to the drawing! The composition used looks like it was mainly focused on the posing of the character. Some principles I see is proportion, movement, and unity. It seems like the proportion was used to create different sizes with the character, the movement looks like it was apart of the shading how its flowing certain ways, and the unity looks like it has been combined with the drawing within the elements.

3: The artwork looks outgoing and strong, like the character has so much power and is very confident with itself. The character looks like it holds huge power especially with the fire on the tail and the way it looks. The way its mouth is open like its roaring shows how fierce the character looks as well.

4: The artwork looks successful and holds a strong feeling. You did very well creating a feeling within the artwork! I absolutely adore Pokémon and I recommend you keep drawing these characters but adding your own twist to it.

The subject of the artwork is a little toy dog crying and being overwhelmed. Three elements of art used in this art work are color, line, and space.

Step - 2 Analyzing:

I think the artist achieved portraying the intense emotions and showing them to the audience very well. The artist has the dog slightly off center and surrounded by hard colorful scribbles. The three principles of art the artist uses are repetition with all the scribbles, emphasis with the emphasis on the dog being the center of it all, and balance and alignment with the way the artist creates a certain aesthetic in the art piece.

Step - 3 Interpreting:

The mood the artwork is portraying is overwhelming emotions and stress that is felt on a bad day.

The symbolism of the scribbles and harsh colors show the overstimulating mood of the artwork and the crying dog represents how all of those feelings affect them.

Step - 4 Judging

The artwork is based off a toy dog that represents the artist. The toy isn’t realistic and the artwork doesn’t have an exact realistic look or color choice, either way it’s very stylistic and charming. The artwork does a good job conveying the strong emotion the artist is feeling and the mood definitely shows the intense and overwhelming feelings the dog is being subjected to. The artwork uses the elements and principles very well. I think that a way to make the artwork a bit more interesting is to have a bit more emphasis on the dog and maybe different patterns in the background, overall the artwork does a very good job on what it’s trying to portray and show.

Work 4

Step 1 - Describing:

The height of the art work is 11.5 in and the width is 7 in. The artwork was made traditionally, the artist used black paper and white graphite to add value and give the artwork a dark auto. The subject of the artwork a dog sitting in the dark in front of a door that isn’t entirely open or shut with light shining through onto the ground. Three elements of art used in this art work are value, space, and line.

Step - 2 Analyzing:

the artist did a good job at leaving the meaning of this art piece open to interpretation. the artist drew a dog in a dark environment with the only thing lighting up the room being the door in front of the dog with the light shining through the slight opening. The three principles of design the artist uses are contrast with the darkness contrasting against the door and light, emphasis with the emphasis being on the dog and the light shining through the door, and unity by having everything be simple but still have small details.

Step - 3 Interpreting:

The mood the artwork is portraying is a somber and gloomy environment. There’s no exact meaning behind the artwork, the artist left it specifically to be interpreted differently by anyone.

The symbolism of the door and light can either be a hopeful or tragic experience. The door could be opening up to the dog, revealing a hopeful light, or the door could be shutting, leaving the dog in a dark despair.

Step - 4 Judging

The artwork isn’t incredibly detailed but it still remains slightly realistic. The artwork does a good job at capturing different emotions and perspectives of the artwork. It really makes you think what this artwork represents and how people interpret it based on their own experiences and beliefs. The artwork’s composition is very simple with the dog and door being the direct focus of the artwork. The values and contrast make the simple artwork has a very dark atmosphere that isn’t entirely in your face but not too simple which is very refreshing.

Work 3

Step 1 - Describing:

The height of the art work is 9.5 in and the width is 7.5 in. The artwork was made traditionally, the artist used notebook paper, a pen, and a sticky note. The subject of the artwork are two figures, a smaller full body and a more up close head and shoulders one. Three elements of art used in this art work are value, line, and texture.

Step - 2 Analyzing:

The artist created something very intricate but it really doesn’t show much of what the art means, but the artist did achieve of creating good values and contrast. The artist drew to figures, one in the back and one closer to the audience. The composition is straight forward and there’s isn’t an exact main subject that’s being put emphasis on. The three principles of design the artist uses are proportion with the way the figures are different sizes, pattern with the symmetrical shapes on one of the figures face, and balance with the weight of the pen strokes like the line art and words.

Step - 3 Interpreting:

The mood the artwork is giving is a slightly unsettling feeling with the figures being slightly intimidating and harshly drawn. The meaning of the artwork is to show the issues and I’m guessing feelings the artist felt while being in the psych ward. I personally don’t really see that, I honestly wouldn’t know what the artwork would be about without the artist telling us.

The symbolism of the messy art style shows how the artist was tormented by their issues and I’m guessing the feeling of putting all that frustration onto paper to represent them.

Step - 4 Judging

The artwork isn’t necessarily realistic. It does have some human anatomy but it isn’t incredibly realistic and more stylized in the artist’s art style. The artwork does have a messy and intense mood to it ,but doesn’t really show what the artist was trying to convey. It does have a slight unsettling mood which is something that the artist did well on. The artist did use the elements and principles very well, especially the values. The artist could’ve used emphasis to have a direct subject in the artwork but overall it’s a very stylized piece that is very surprising that it was made with a pen on notebook paper.

Work 1

Step 1 - Describing:

The height of the art work is 10 in and the width is 8 in. The artwork was made traditionally, the artist used a mechanical pencil and micron marker, the artwork is colored but they don’t mention what material they used. The subject of the artwork is a prisoner with monstrous features. Three elements of art used in this art work are shape, color, and line.

Step - 2 Analyzing:

The artist did a great job with creating a very stylistic and creative character with a very interesting idea and meaning behind it. The composition of the artwork has a character in the middle of the page, there’s isn’t much of a background but it’s definitely a choice to have the character be the main focus. The three principles of design the artist uses are proportion with both the human and monster anatomy, emphasis with the emphasis being on the monster features, and pattern with the repeating stripes and eyes.

Step - 3 Interpreting:

The artwork has a slightly shameful mood with the artist was trying to portray with the design of the prisoner how they are viewed negatively. The meaning of the artwork is to show the discrimination prisoners face, and how society views them as monsters, but at the end of the day they are just humans who make mistakes. I personally really like this meaning and the artwork does a great job showing how society views prisoners by giving the prisoner monstrous features but still keeping some human anatomy. The symbolism of the chains and monstrous features symbolize the shame and discrimination that prisoners experience.

Step - 4 Judging

The artwork does have realistic human anatomy, but it’s stylization is based off of cartoons. The artwork doesn’t really convey a intense mood, it has a meaning and the artwork is very good but its mood doesn’t take over the entire art piece. The art work has a shameful feeling to it from the way the prisoner is shielding themselves. The artist used the elements and principles pretty well, maybe they could’ve been more diverse and included a more interesting background, but overall it’s a good art piece. I really enjoy the art style and the idea of the art piece, but I think with more detail and a background the mood could be more intense and noticeable.

Step 1: I see some clouds all over the piece with some lightning with a hint of purple with the use of value and texture with the clouds, and the use of space where the cliff with a person sitting seems so high up in the sky

Step 2: The longer I look it’s like I can hear the thunder or the wind, and looking at the woman just sitting there it seems like she doesn’t care with the weather that’s going on around her. Like if she fears nothing. I also like how the only color is the purple to make the lighting stand out

Step 4: You’re work tells me that you can give off this mystery feeling and that you’re a person who can show emotions through imagery. This piece is quiet, but yet powerful.

Step 5: I really like this piece, I think to give it that more chaotic weather feeling is making the lighting more bold or thicker, maybe even a lighter purple to give that bolt look and make it stand out even more

This artwork has biblical themes that explain the story of Eve resisting the Serpent’s temptation to eat the apples. The medium that was used is digital on Procreate, and I see two subjects in this artwork that draw my attention- the woman, and the snake. Three elements of art I immediately notice are value, space, and color. Value because I can see how th3 lighting of the piece highlights the important parts, space because of the two subjects against the dark background, and color because the color brings the piece forward tremendously.

I think the artist has achieved instilling a sense of partial resistance, and the feeling of temptation. When I look at the woman’s face, and her reaching for the apples, I can tell she is tempted to listen to the snake but feels as if she will regret the action. The composition, or organization of this artwork is shown through the figures represented in the work. Woman, and snake. Three elements of design I noticed are contrast, movement, and emphasis. Contrast because the shading and background bring the woman and snake forward, movement because I can see the woman reaching for the apples, and emphasis because the dark coloring and muted composition help to imbue the feeling of regret.

The mood of this artwork- as mentioned before, feels like it could be trying to instill temptation, regret, and even guilt. I can feel how the woman is feeling by looking at her expression, and how she reaches for her necklace makes me think she almost doesn’t want to go through with what she’s about to do.

All in all, I believe the artwork is successful because based on my general analysis, the mood brings the piece out a lot. I can feel exactly how the woman is feeling- temptation. If I could recommend a change, I think changing the black shading would help to make the piece pop a lot more. While it adds contrast, it almost makes the woman feel not as alive. Using color theory to determine what color you should shade with helps a lot, and I think it would help you moving forward with your already eye catching artwork.

There is a sword stuck in a rock with mountains in the background and a grassy hill beside them.

Step 2: The artist organized the piece to where the sword was in front of the mountains, making the sword look like it is as big as the mountains. The artists layout of the artwork is to put the sword to the right to allow you to see the mountains in the background.

Step 3: The mood of the artwork to me is accomplished, because the sword in the stone makes it look like a battle has just been fought. It does not tell you who has won the battle, also giving the artwork a sense of depressing or overwhelming.

Step 4: The artwork is successful because it created a strong mood towards melancholy. The underlying tones of sadness and depression are almost outshined by the overpowering sense of accomplishment and magnificence.

Step 1: The height of the artwork is 19 inches and the width is 15 inches. The artwork shows an injured and afraid man hiding behind a car from a savage werewolf with glowing eyes.

Step 2: The artist organized the artwork to make it look like the werewolf overpowers the man and is close to finding him. The artist put the werewolf on top of the man as if to make it look like he already knows where he is and is just playing with his prey/food.

Step 3: The mood of the artwork is fearful, because the man looks damaged and injured from a previous battle with the werewolf. He looks afraid to have another encounter with the werewolf because it might be his last. The werewolf looks accomplished with his work and probably thinks it is easy pickings for him now.

Step 4: The artwork is successful to me because the way the artist composed the artwork made me feel distressed and worried. Making me feel like I’m in the guy in the artworks shoes. The way the artist put the wolf above the man makes it look like there is no hope for the man and the werewolf is closing in on him.

1) Work #3, the art work is 5 inches in height and 6 inches in width, it was created through black paper and charcoal pencils. It depicts a man slumped over playing the piano with an expressive face. I can see value and texture was used in this piece.

2) I can see that the man in the art piece is moved by the music he’s creating. He’s passionate about music, more specifically the piano. This is expressed with the emphasis on the man’s face, almost like he’s completely focused on the piano and forgetting the world around him. The proportion of the man’s body helps the idea that he’s moved by music, the way he’s slumped over the piano. Makes it seem like the only support on his body is his hands on the piano.

3) The meaning of the work to me, is the emotional connection a musician creates within their instrument. The artist using black paper helped the musicians face stand out more and creating almost a restless look. The mood feels like extreme relaxation and melancholic with how at peace he looks, almost like he’s in the zone.

4) The artist was successful at creating a composition that used value, proportion, and movement all in one piece to create a strong emotion of relaxation within the subject.

Three elements of art is shape from the outline, texture in the background the zebra pattern and color. Using red and blue for a symbol of maybe politics?

My eyes draw toward the cat especially when the cats mouth is open, it gives it the exaggeration. The lettering “Don’t listen” is by the tv because the news is coming out of the TV. The artist used unity by using a lot of elements making chaotic but calm at the same time. The artist also used movement in the piece by the colors blue “screaming” at the cat. The red and blue contrast each other and they look like political colors. Universal in the united state blue is democrat and red is republican.

The mood looks like the cat which is the main subject is shocked but don’t listen is a symbolism. The author says that the ideas is the news effecting the cat opinions so maybe the cat is changing opinions because the cat is shocked hearing things.

The artwork is successful because it creates a strong mood of the cat being shocked, the art work is very exaggerated and the colors are “screaming at each other”. It’s a blue swirl in the background with a character coming into the center. I can see the use of space, line, and color was used when creating this work.

The blue swirl in the background makes me think the character shown is spiraling or falling into this swirl/ tunnel and we’ve only gotten a glimpse of their journey. The movement of the swirl really takes this art work far because it makes me feel like I’m spinning the more I look at it or being drawn in just like the character.

I’d interpret this artwork as out of this world, feeling like your spinning in ur own head separate from the present. I think this because the character is exaggerated and abnormal, and the background gives a sense of mystery as to what is at the end of this spiral or maybe it keeps going. I also think perhaps the feeling it’s giving is psychedelic, the character looks pretty rockstar, maybe he dabbles in some silly substances.

The artist was successful in the composition they used in their artwork through the movement, pops of color, and line in the artwork.

She explained being creative in a different way. This artist used different variety through out the artwork, like people, fish, cat, sun, clouds and lines. She also used patterns of the squiggly lines, there is most squiggly lines and playful lines throughout the page than straight lines.

The mood in this artwork is a happy mood, a childish and playful mood.

Step 1: work is 11 by 24. I love the colors incorporated and how you created form in the landscape. You also made very great use with the space.

Step 2: the proportions with the house create an environment that balances out the bittersweet mood. You did an amazing job with the rhythm and movement in the road. You achieved a really nice piece that makes you question what is the meaning behind it. I like how you didn’t draw too much emphasis on your dog but he is still seen.

Step 3: The artwork is bittersweet. I think with the dogs tail up makes him look joyous and playful. But the muted colors add a sense of somber. It can be relatable to anyone going through a similar situation or anyone that has lost a pet.

Step 4:

I think the artwork is very successful in all views but mainly 2 and 3. You created a strong meaning and the elements and principles all make this a great composition. If you wanted to make it even stronger, you could spend more time on the houses or dog.

Describe- I see a medium sized artwork with color pastels. With two best friends with bright striking colors. There’s lots of different values of the two colors used for variety. Along with a crayon texture giving a playful vibe.

Analyze- The composition shows the two friends are close not only physically but also as friends. The artist uses balance to keep the two subjects in equal harmony. They also use contrast by using the darkest value of each color of the two subjects eyes and hair. Keeping our attention on them. This goes along with emphasis as by drawing our attention to their hair and eyes it makes us focus on the faces instead of anything else.

Interpreting- The mood of this artwork is very playful, happy, and comfortable. This is given by the two girls soft smiles but very happy eyes. As well as the pose.

Judging- This artwork is successful based on its strong mood, it creates a very specific playful and warm vibe while only having two subjects and only two colors.

Describe- I see a small simple but very aesthetically pleasing painting. I see three different subjects, a snowcone, a gansito, and a duvalín. There are three very noticeable elements of art. Shape is one of the big ones as the artists makes everything a round soft shape even with the sparkles that should be sharp. Color is also used, the artist chose very soft and light colors while not making anything too similar in value. Speaking of value, the artist uses value to keep things interesting without being overly contrasting.

Analyzing- The artist organized this art rather simply but quite smart. As all three subjects are in view but from a distance making the painting feel light and not claustrophobic. The artist uses three principles of design that help the art succeed. Balance is used to make the subjects all stay in focus while not competing with each other for the viewers eyes. Speaking of which Unity is used to make each subject pop and be unique while not being overwhelming. Variety of color is also used to make each subject unique, each has one main color with pops of others.

Interpreting- The mood of this work is dreamy, calm, and peaceful. This is convoyed through the light colors and round shapes.

Judging- This artwork is successful because they create a strong feeling with a very simple painting.

Movement was used in the position of the body, making it obvious the shark is turning at an angle through the water. Everything is balanced, and the proportion is well done considering the simplistic nature of the design. The intent was definitely achieved, as there’s a pretty cute (and complete) whale shark sculpted. I think the artist was successful, because the whale shark is cute and well made. 👍

Step 1. I love how there is only one subject in this art piece, allowing for clear and easy focus. You use a monochromatic color palette, and even in its limited colors you make it work. I love the use of oil pastels giving Joanna’s face a soft smooth texture, but also being able to create sharp lines in the hair. You have a great understanding of value especially when working with such a restricting color palette.

Step 2. I think you achieved an easy and simple focus, making your only subject your friend Joanna. For the size you made great use of the space given and didn’t leave a lot of white space, even filling it in too, which I think is awesome. The principles of art I see used are proportion, value, and texture, all done with the oil pastels.

Step 3. Work 4 to me seems like a piece made to make the viewer feel warm. While her expression is almost somber the warm colors, and how she was drawn make it known that the artist cares a lot about the subject. The soft monochromatic colors are warm creating that feeling of softness and affection.

Step 4. Yes the artist is success with this piece. The style is realistic and warm, and the artwork creates a soft warm mood. The use of principles and the elements are easily identified and all come together to make a good composition.

I love all your works Alexis they’re souper pawsome

1. For work 1, the size is 8x11, using procreate, inspired by Keith Haring. The cartoonish fox is the main subject of the piece, standing out from the realistically drawn felines, which artistically captures the main idea of the piece. He used colors in his piece extremely well by adding the bright colors right next to the monotone colors, along with very interesting shapes used to draw the fox. With the lines of the fox also being thicker to show a more cartoony tone.

2. I think the artist achieved the overall meaning of the piece very well, being different in a place where most are normal can be nerve wracking. The artist put the fox in the top left, almost to seem as though it is coming out of the corner, in a extravagant style. The artist used emphasis and contrast together with the colors to make the fox stand out in the piece, to show the overall feeling of being different. To add, he also used movement of the lines near the fox with the shapes of it, to portray the over the top pose and nervousness from the character.

3. The mood of the piece is definitely energetic, with the fox almost jumping out and the bright colors that overwhelm the dull ones.

4. Overall, the artwork is very successful in showing its personal meaning to the artist, and using many elements and principles to portray that.

Work 2:

Step 1- 2480 px height and 3508 px width. The median is digital and the process was 3 steps of first planning in the sketchbook, second doing an oil pastel painting then last doing it in digital. The subject of the piece i see is the food and the hands being the main points within it. The three elements of art that i see are texture, color, and shape. Texture was used for the shiny and glazed effect on the chicken, color was used on the hands to create a glitch effect and shape was used all throughout the piece such as the glitch on the hands or the shape of the chicken in the bowl.

Step 2- the artist fully encapsulated the emotions and strain of an eating disorder. The artist organized the artwork by the color choices and the emphasis on the plate of food, making a balance between all the things present. Emphasis is present on the plate of food with it being the main points within and the first thing that catches the eye. Contrast was also used on the food with its vibrant colors contrasting the dull background. Movement is present in the static and glitching of the hands.

Step 3- The message in the artwork is the struggles and pain of an eating disorder. With the mood made by it a feeling of longing for something that you can’t reach which creates a mood of anger, somber, and struggle. The symbolism of the food being vibrant and very appetizing making it truly desirable however the cool colors of the background and the hands distorted and glitched making that longing unreachable with one’s body not able to reach what it wants.

Step 4- view #2, the artwork is very successful in its mood with all the elements truly putting it together. The mood of the delicious plate right in front of the person but their hands broken, unable to reach it. Even the color choices are amazing with the food so vibrant and everything else dull and the hands glitching. All of those truly make it’s mission of representing an eating disorder truly successful.

1. For work 2, the height is 2480px by 3508px using procreate, and planning a sketch on paper before using oil pastels, then finishing digitally. The food and hands are the main subject in the artwork, the food, standing out as more colored than the rest of the piece. And the hands being a grey color, however having a strong glitch effect added to them. The artist used texture and value, of the food, to show the overwhelming feeling, and the focus of the person eating on the food. The also used the space in the back to put just a simple pattern, again shifting the focus to the food, just as the person is.

2. The artist achieved very well the feeling of not being able to finish the meal, or much less start it. The food and the hands are equally symmetrical in the photo, giving importance to both physically. The artist used emphasis, with the glitch affect, on the hands to show the struggle of being able to eat. Along with a contrast of art styles between the hands and the food, with the food being more realistic, and the hands being a simple grey color. Lastly the artist used pattern in the background to keep the focus up on the food and/or the hands.

3. The mood of the artwork is very anxious, maybe even a bit of frustration mixed in, with the effect on the hands making it seem like they want to move to pick up the food, but just can’t.

4. Overall the artist was very successful in portraying their string feeling of the piece.

The subject of the art piece is the jelly fish. I see value within the shades of the jellyfish, texture in the effect of its tentacles, and line with the shading and line work with the fish itself and its tentacles.

Step 2- the artist made the jellyfish the main point of the piece with it front and center and nothing around it. Movement, is used with well the movement of each tentacle, emphasis on the jellyfish with it taking up the whole page and being eye catching, repetition within the jellyfish’s design and body.

Step 3- the mood within the art piece is best described in one word, ethereal, with the art piece truly beautiful with how magestic and divine the jellyfish looks

Step 4- view 1#- subject, the artwork looks realistic like a black and white photo of a jellyfish with it looking beautiful like the ones we see in our world.

Step1: the height of the art work is 1 inch and the width 1 inches as well, with a depth of 2 inches. The artwork is a small 3 dimensional sculpture of a pineapple made from polymer clay.

Step 2: texture- the art work really shows texture with the cross-hatch pattern on the body of the pineapple , mimicking the rough texture of the fruit. Color- The use of a vibrant yellow for the body and green for the leaves provides a realistic color contrast.

Step 3: the mood is cheerful, vibrant, and sweetness. The colors used in the piece makes it happy and bold. The pineapple itself often is associated with tropical settings and summer time. It also represents the sweetness and rich flavors of the fruit.

Step 4: the artist successfully used the elements of art and the principles of design to create a good composition. The element of texture is the essential to the compositions success. The pattern gives the yellow body weight and realism. The piece achieves unity because the elements are arranged to form a single and recognizable object. Your pieces regardless the size show a lot of detail and especially harder with polymer clay I’ll love to see more of your artwork and how you continue to grow.

Step 1: the artwork is a 2 inch by 4 inch with a depth of 7 inches. The primary material for the fish sculpture is a flat sheet of clay with a cardboard base secured with pins. With a label saying “Salmon”. The artist created a flat sheet of clay, cut out the salmon form, and then assembled the piece onto a cardboard base using metal pins. The process focuses on a three-dimensional, sculptural representation of a salmon.

Step 2: the artist achieved a compelling representation of a salmon that has been stripped of its vitality, embodying the concept of helplessness. By exposing the internal body, the artist successfully made the subject feel vulnerable and defeated. The sculpted salmon figure is placed in the center of the black cardboard base, making it the focal point. The metal pins are positioned to pierce the fish and anchor it to the base, adding a sense of finality and immobilization to the piece.

Step 3: The mood of the artwork is somber, tragic, and melancholic. The meaning as stated by the artist, is to illustrate the theme of helplessness and the inevitable futility of a great struggle. The artwork represents the final defeated state of a creature known for its powerful life affirming struggle. The artist is saying that even the most determined effort “fighting rivers" can ultimately lead to a desolate end. The dark, featureless base symbolizes isolation, emptiness, or the void of death. The salmon is a symbol of struggle, determination, and resilience who are known for swimming upstream. Its defeated state cut open and pinned down symbolizes the failure of effort and the finality of death and defeat.

Step 4: view #2 -The artwork is successful if it creates a strong mood or feeling. With the dark colors of the base showing helplessness and the pins showing the struggle. I love the creativity of all the artist pieces and the different type of materials used. I would like to see more artwork and the creativity ideas.

This piece has the artist’s view of their neighbor’s home at sunset, painting the piece on canvas paper, painting cardboard, and finally gluing the painting in the center, making the cardboard border around the piece.

The home and tree create a balance on opposite ends of the center. The border is excellently used, keeping a central focus on the view as a whole rather than leaving a struggle on the center’s individual pieces with a struggle for focus. There is distinct contrast between the sky, subject, shadow on the house, and border. The overall emphasis created by the. border around the landscape with it’s saturated blues and reds contrasted from the light yellow help identify the importance of the full view rather than each individual piece.

The use of warm colors have a comfortable and cozy energy, which works with the familiarity of a neighbor’s home, and the warmth of the sunset.

Step 1. The artist made a 9 by 11 inches piece using a variety of materials such as charcoal, alcohol markers, prismacolor pencils, and a gen pen. The whole piece is a cut out of the subject, allowing for easy focus only on the subject. Three elements of art applied to this piece are shape, color, and value. The artist used shape by cutting out the subject, creating a silhouette of the face, color and value were used contrasting from the charcoal to pencil.

Step 2. The artist organized this piece by splitting the subject in half, one side cool with soft blues, while the other side is darker in tone and harsher with the charcoal. Three principals used were proportion, variety, and contrast. The artist used them with the elements of art by making the subjects face completely proportional, and creating contrast by using different materials and colors for the right and left side of the face. Variety was used by the materials and different colors.

Step 3. The mood the artwork creates is almost somber mood, the split of the face from the different materials and colors give off a strong sense of some type of issues regarding personality or who you are as a person. The artist creates this mood by showing a great contrast between the two sides of the subjects face.

Step 4. This artwork is successful because it’s realistic and creates a strong sense of the spilt between who a person is on the outside and the inside.

Step 1- The artist used a grey paper that has a height of 9inches and a width of 6inches. They also used a pencil. They drew an inanimate object that was nearby. The objects seems to be a cable and a socket. Three elements of art that they used is form, value, and texture. They drew a 3D shape of the socket and cable (form), they drew the highlights and shadows on the object (value), and they drew the texture that is on the cable.

Step 2- I believe the artist was able to create a composition with shadows, highlights, and texture. They simply drew an inanimate object that was nearby from their perspective. Three principles of design that they used is unity, variety, and proportion. They unified the cable and socket, the size difference between the cable and socket (proportion), and they made different shapes like the cables, socket, and the plug (variety).

Step 3- There doesn’t seem to be any meaning in the work. It’s simply picking an inanimate object from their perspective an drawing it.

Step 4- The artwork is successful by creating a realistic drawing of inanimate objects.

Step 1- The size of the piece is 11 inches by 11 inches. They used sketchbook paper, tissue paper, watercolors, Micron pens, and construction paper. For their process they searched for a reference, accidentally rip paper, and apply and assemble the supplies. They also got critique from their peers. Their subject is a shark with their jaw wide open, baring its teeth. Three elements of art that they used is space, color, and lines. They had some space between the teeth, they had white, red, blue, and grey colors for the background, and lines on the tail, teeth, and near fins to show shadows.

Step 2- I believe the artist was able to create a composition with shadows, texture, and vibrant colors. They organized their work by having the shark and its gaping jaw with its sharp teeth be the main subject. While having vibrant colors that were used to make up the shark as the background. Three principles of design that they used is variety, emphasis, and pattern. They created a variety of differently sized teeth, they made an emphasis by using the vibrant red and the gaping mouth of the sharp, and they made a pattern of the teeth going around.

Step 3- The piece gives off a furious mood, but it also invokes a sense of fear. The shark baring its teeth like it’s about to bite you invokes the different moods.

Step 4- The composition is successful because the artist used the elements and principles together successfully.
