This occurred in the 19th and 20th century on the continent of Africa. This occurred because Europeans needed raw materials to fuel the Industrial Revolution and was made possible because they had technological advancements over Africa. The major European power participating were British and French. <br>Metaphor:  The Scramble of Africa was like a one sided game of checkers. The symbols in this comparison are European nations having domination over Africans because the brown checker piece has little to no chances of winning against the white pieces, like the Africans in their attempts of revolting against imperialism.<br><br></div>]]></description>

This invasion of Africa was possible because of recent technological advancements like the steam ship and maxim gun, that occurred on the European continent. The major European countries that participated were Great Britain, France and Spain.<br><br>Metaphor: The scramble for Africa was like stealing candy form a baby. <br><br>The symbols in this comparison are a crying baby/map of Africa and an indifferent European explorer/soldier because they represent how Europe took all it wanted from Africa and completely ignored the African peoples plight.<br><br><br><br><br></div>]]></description>

This was made possible at this time because the invention of steam boats allowed them to travel through rivers that led them to central Africa. The major European powers participating were Britain, Portugal, Belgium, and Dutch.<br><br>Metaphor: The Scramble for Africa was like a family of fourteen fighting over a turkey at thanksgiving. The turkey represents Africa and the family represents the fourteen countries represented at the Berlin conference. They discussed what part of the continent they wanted because some land was better than others which represents the family fighting over the best parts of the turkey. The older siblings represent the more powerful countries because they are able to get the best part of the turkey because of their age. <br><br></div>]]></description>
