We mind-mapped some ideas such as the the problem which was high student fees and low funding, we also discussed which approach we would take to tackle this issue and who we would target the campaign towards. There were a few different ways we could campaign our topic and I decided to go with the option of using a petition as it simple but effective as we if we get a certain amount of signatures it has to be addressed by the government.

I created a petition on a word document for individuals to sign in order to support the campaign against student fees. In this petition, I mentioned what the cause was for so that individuals who are signing the petition know what the cause is for and how signing the it could help students around the UK.

For campaigning, we started off by discussing what activism is and spoke about our own activism towards a topic we feel strongly about. We looked at a few issues to discuss and ultimately decided to do our campaign on students fees.

Choosing a theme

Once we looked at examples, we were given 5 themes and had to pick one to continue with. I decided to go with the theme of monsters from the 50s and created my design according to it.

Once we chose our theme, we were given about 5-10 minutes to research the theme and collect ideas and inspiration from the internet. After my research, I found the name "Boo-Gleech" which was appealing to me, so I decides to pick that name for my design.

We were given sheets to draw on in order to get ideas on our design, I tried about a dozen designs, before I picked the one that worked best for me which was an octopus style design and continued with it.

After picking the design I liked most, I decided to add colour and expand on the drawing by adding more to the background and giving the drawing context.

After finishing my final design, I transferred it onto tracing paper and then scanned it onto the computer to add onto a software.

Once the image was uploaded to the software, I put it onto a template to give the idea that the design is on a bus stop and being advertised. I added colour to the design and adjusted the light on it then finally saved it.

Once we had a starting point with our story for the first task, we were given a frame work to work with such as adding a second, third character and adding dialogue. I began molding my story around the instructions we were given and then eventually ended it with a plot twist.

I was in a group of three with Beatrice and Rui. This was the final outcome of our story and we used three characters as we were in a group of three. We used the three act structure to map out our story and break down what takes place in detail. Our horror story revolves around three girls who go to a party and see a hooded figure watching them, as a result of feeling scared the girls decide to go home. Before they go home, Aira, decided to go back and get her phone. During that time the hooded figure is spotted again and the two girls run. At the end of the story it’s revealed Amy is dead and the hooded figure was Aira.

I decided to take this image as it has a some red to it and although the re takes up a small amount of the picture, it still captures attention. As I chose red for my theme, I decided to take this picture to show some red that we find around us when it’s in small but common places such as this pole.

When walking pass the alarm, it caught my attention immediately due to the red being bright and obvious. This picture captures attention as it is bright red and an alarm which correlates as red is seen as an exciting colour. This image gave me inspiration in how to begin my story and shaped the beginning of it.

I took this image as the big red object caught my attention from far away and I decided it would be good to use for my work. Despite being in an unnoticeable space, I still managed to see it and be interested by it.

I began with taking a picture of the corridor as it looked captivating with the distance having no light and emphasizing darkness. Also the walls are parallel towards the darkness which gives the illusion of darkness creeping up on the viewer. The white walls also give a good contrast and brings out the the darkness ahead. Some feedback was that the outcome of the image would be better if the red object on the right was cropped out of the picture.

The second image I took was inspired when I was outside looking for inspiration. What caught my attention was the bushes on either side framing the building in the middle of the picture. The trees behind were also lined up perfectly which gave the view a more symmetrical look. The building was the focus of the image as it is well framed by the bushes and trees which allows the focus to be in one place.

The third image I took inspired by the background and how it is aesthetically pleasing. Due to this, I decided to take a picture of the light in the centre of the image which brings attentions to it, but mainly the focus is the background. The sharp distinction between the sky and building also helps to bring the image together. However, this image is the weaker ne out of the other two.

Final Outcome

This was the final outcome of our idea surrounding the word "bubble". The idea was that a girl is constantly in a bubble due to her anxiety and doesn't feel at peace at any of the places she goes to until she gets to her "secret spot" which is an isolated calming place. The secret spot allows her to be relieved of her anxiety and finally be at peace.

For photography we began by looking at multiple examples of work by photographers and gathered an idea on the kind of outcome we would desire from our own work. We learned about the rule of 3's which allowed a photo to look more symmetrical and bought together by straight lines and even spaces.

For our first task, we were asked to pick a colour for a theme, then go out for some time to take pictures of things that contained the colour of our choice.

The colour I decided to pick for this task was the colour red. I went out and used my phone to take pictures of things that stood out to me in the colour of red.

Creating a story

Once we had taken our pictures, we analyzed them and then was instructed to write a story revolving the images we took. I used the red alarm as inspiration to begin writing my creartive writing.

For our second task, we had to begin with a short sentence, then take one word from the first sentence and create a new one. We did this multiple time, and then used a word from our partners work to write a a sentence.

For our third task, we had to write about an individual in our life and describe them and their personality during the time you knew them. I decided to write mine about my best friend and her personality in secondary school. As she was more shy during our time in school, I decided to make my character about her shy too.

Then we had to get into a small group and create a story using all the people we all wrote about. Once we created a rough idea of the story, we had to pitch it.

For radio, we began by giving ourselves thirty seconds to introduce ourselves and say something interesting. We did this to understands how people who have real life radio shows conduct their introduction. Once we did our introduction, we looked at some examples of radio and how people use sound to make their work more captivating and interesting.

We were then asked to write a short monologue (about a minute) from the perspective of someone living in a dystopian society. I decided to make mine about a society were showing emotions has been banned. Once I perfected MY monologue, we went into the recording studio and I recorded my piece.

Our first task was to to write about any topic we felt passionate about for five minutes and I decided to use my five minutes to write about Palestine as I feel strongly about it.

Once we finished recording our monologue, we looked at examples of interviews and what technique or style the interviewer uses with the interviewee. We then was asked to interview our partner on topic of their choice, whilst filming it Voice Memos. I interviewed my partner on their experience during the beginning term of university as a first a first year.

Animation began with looking at different forms of animation and a range of examples created by other people on different subjects. One of the examples we saw was explaining the effects of being sectioned.

Choosing a topic

We then was taken into the animation room to be explained how stop animation works. We were also shown how to take images and how to use the program for our work. We then got into groups to discuss what the topic of our own animation would be about. We ultimately decided to do our animation on Palestine and briefly explain the current events taking place.

Creating Material

We began mind mapping some ideas and creating materials that we would use to explain our story. We drew and made things such as flags, a road, signs and a few other things. We then went into the animation studio and began working.

We worked on creating our animation for about an hour but realized we hadn’t hit our goal with our pictures so added more to our story as we went along.

Creating this animation made me realize that animation is something that takes a long time as our 10 second work took us about an hour which means a longer piece would be more time consuming. After watching it back, we realized we made a mistake by moving the signs away too fast which made it difficult to read each one. As a result, we tried to make the pictures of the signs longer which was helpful but still quite fast. Overall, the animation video was a success and told our story well.

We then was given the theme of “otherness” and was told to pick a film or tv show to create a website about. I picked a Turkish show called Kardeşlerim and it fit my theme as it revolved around siblings who become orphaned and how they become outsiders due to the unfortunate events that take place in their lives.

We were introduced to a template website and altered the coding of the website to fit our chosen film/show. We began by changing the title of the template and continued by altering the pictures, description and others until the website was completely changed into our own work.

When starting, I found interactive media slightly difficult at first as I didn’t understand the coding and all the information we were given. I thought I was going to struggle with the coding, however, as we were taken through the step by step of how to change the coding, I understood it better and eventually got the hang of it and managed to change parts of the coding comfortably. Although I was satisfied the final outcome of my work, it could have been improved by finding better fitting images and ones that are better quality.

I enjoyed radio and the process of developing an idea and making a story out of it. At first I was stuck with the monologue task but as I got some examples I managed to forms some ideas and was happy with my work. I wasn’t completely satisfied with the recording as I feel like I paused too much and stuttered a little but I managed to fix that in editing. I wasn’t too happy with my interview as I believe it was too short but overall it was still partly a success as I covered all my questions.

I took three images for photography and was happy with the pictures I took as I made them symmetrical and straight which was ideal for my work. However, some of the pictures had place for improvement, for example the first image has some objects in the frame which makes it look less organized. The last image I took didn’t have much symmetry or organization behind it which is why it was my weakest image and has more room for improvement. Overall, I was satisfied with my images for the most part as they are pretty straight and use the rule of thirds.

My final design came out how I wanted it to and I was able to create the design I desired from the beginning. I stuck with my idea through all my practice designs as I was happy with it. However, I would have preferred a more creative design that captured more of the viewers attention. I also didn’t have a variety of ideas as I stuck to one which may have limited my options for my final outcome. Despite this, I’m satisfied with my final outcome as I kept my idea of using an octopus for theme of the 50s.

In this taster, I was satisfied with most my decision's. I’m happy with the colour I chose for my theme which was red as it can create an upbeat story due to its vibrancy. I was also happy with my images as my image of an alarm helped me form my creative writing task. The horror story I came up with in my group was a success as it used the three act structure and used a good plot twists. Despite this, if I could change anything it would be to give the horror story more details and description.

The petition I created for the topic of students fees was a success as I structured it well and allowed space to explain what the petition is about which is helpful for the individual signing it since they can feel trust that their signature is going for a good cause. Some adjustments I would make to the petition is to make it more eye capturing to make people feel more interested and curious as to what people are advocating for, this will result in more signatures and a success for the campaign.

The final outcome was successful as it captured the exact message we tried to put out across and still explained a story whilst making the character faceless. I believe we captured to the concept of “bubble” well through this video as the character is in her own bubble when she reaches her safe place. However, I wasn’t too satisfied with the music as we were short on time so I couldn’t find something that fit the video better. I also think my editing could have been down better to give the transition for dark to vibrant a more smooth flow.

We had to begin by creating an introduction about the person we were interviewing by noting their name, age, location and occupation. My overall interview was successful as I managed to get a significant amount of information on my interviewee's earrings and was able to keep the interview smooth and steady. However, due to the answers I received, I had to change some of my questions and adapt it to fit my interviewees answers. For example, when I planned the question "who gave it to you?" I was told that my partner got her earrings for herself which limited me on the expansion I could make on the question. Also my question of "how long have you had it" was already answered in a prior question and was merged into one, so I changed my question to "are you going to continued wearing the earrings?" Overall, the interview was a success.

When conducting my interview I used the app "Otter" which is an app that can record voices and automatically type it out as you speak. Once I finished my interview, I copied and pasted the interview into a word documents and made it more neat.
