L'ús de la careta, element de protecció perfeccionat per La Boessiere pare (1780), es va implantar a les sales d'armes al segle XVIII. Aquest element va permetre als tiradors una proximitat més gran i la possibilitat d'executar recursos que d'una altra manera no s'executaven en nom d'una seguretat necessària.
