Venezuela (Closed Border)

Because of its failing economy Venezuela is in great need of necessities such as food and medicine. The United States, as well as many other nations have gathered and sent important supplies to Colombia for the people of Venezuela. Why were they sent to Colombia instead of Venezuela? The issue that the people of Venezuela are facing is the closed border that the president is refusing to open, even in order for his people to receive necessary supplies. The President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, claims that the help is unneeded and that it is part of the United States plan to overthrow him.

I feel most connected to this story when I think of teenagers in Venezuela trying to live their lives just like I am, but they can't even receive basic necessities for free because of their president's arrogance. What we know as globalization is stopped when the leader of a country suddenly decides to put up borders and separate the country from the rest of the world. They can not get the imports that they need from around the world while borders are closed. In a country like the United States, which is more engaged in the global world than many other countries we often feel a pull and a certain sense of responsibility when we see that others are oppressed and without basic needs. Because of globalization we know that these people need help. Globalization have helped us to realize that these people are not all that far away, and they are in no way different from who we are.

One of the main things that has impacted globalization in a very significant way is social media. Facebook especially was one of the first times that people around the world can connect with one another. Not only that, but a very wide range of people from all over are involved. As the company grew there were ways in which the privacy of the users was compromised. This created and continues to create danger for everyone who is involved with facebook.

This affects me because I am a user of instagram which is owned by facebook. This also affects our world because many people, no matter where they are from are connected by social media. If social media crashes or something goes wrong we will lose a lot of global communication. A good amount of our global connections comes through the social platforms that we have created. The thought that these could fail at any time means that we are at a much bigger risk than losing our instagram account, we could lose communication all over the world. When it comes to those in charge of these platforms they need to take our safety and the safety of the platform much more seriously.

Brexit

The upcoming British exit from the European Union, also known as Brexit, is a topic that revolves greatly around globalization. This is the first time since the European Union began that a country has decided to leave and it will change many things when it comes to the operation of the UK. We saw the way in which it would impact the fish market alone, maybe even adding tariffs for countries in which they were once able to trade freely. This will also change the way that citizenships work and the way in which people move around. Many people living and working in the UK are not originally from there and many are not even citizens. This will change the operations of the UK in many ways.

This is related to Globalization in many ways. The most significant way is the way that trade will change. Countries that the UK had free trade with once may become more limited and therefore more expensive for the companies and people who have always shipped goods out. This will also change a lot about the EU and how it is run. As a result I would expect that other countries will also begin to exit the EU. This will change a lot not only for other countries in Europe but it will most likely change the relationships that the UK is now about to make around the world.

New Delta Facility

Delta has built a new testing facility in Atlanta mainly for testing engines. This will aid the company in creating bigger, more efficient aircrafts. This facility will not only be in use for Delta but will be available for the testing of other airlines/companies.

This is important to globalization because air transportation is a huge part of how people and items travel around the world. Airlines and planes in general more easily connect all of us. Now that more planes are being tested and built this allows them to become more efficient and our trade to become more efficient along with it. Steps like this will allow us to take leaps into the future of globalization and maybe even at some point allow us to find a more green solution to flying. The more and better that we develop these fields and our facilities for study, the more opportunities they have to advance and change for the better. We are living in a world of change and we have to do all that we can to keep up with it.

Venezuela Electricity and Water

Although power has returned to most of Venezuela after a blackout another, much bigger problem remains. A black mud like substance appears instead of water whenever the faucet is turned on since the black out. Venezuelan citizens are unable to find clean water and are required to settle for runoff rain water wherever they can find it.

This issue is related to globalization because water, and the lack of water is already a problem for multiple countries around the world. Adding another country where people must search on a daily basis for drinking water is something that I could never imagine. This makes me wonder how long until water becomes a good that we trade. Will we ever find ourselves in free trade with another country just to get some of their clean water? At what point does water become as much of a luxury as fashion? This is something that we as a country and the world may have to worry about in the future.

Abisoye Ajayi-Akinfolarin is a woman who is making a difference in Nigeria. Not only has she taken the time to gain knowledge and learn how to code for herself, but she now uses that ability to make a difference in her community. By teaching young girls how to code she not only empowers them, but also gives them new opportunities to be able to work in better industries and conditions.

This is relevant to globalization because globalization has a lot to do with trade and what you have to offer. Because technology is one of the things that so easily connects us, teaching these girls how to code opens up new life opportunities for them. Not only does it open up these new opportunities but it also helps the industry to grow. Because these girls are learning in a country where technology is not as prevalent as the United States, this helps the industry to spread all over the world. Not only will the industry move around the world but it will also create more jobs and allow more people to use technology to their advantage. The more people that have access to technology and that understand the concept, the more quickly we can move forward in this area.

Boeing is most likely going to lose business because of the two 737 Maxs that have crashed recently killing passengers. The 737 Maxs are being grounded for a while while these issues are being solved by Boeing. Because Boeing is a significant company in the airline industry many doubt that they will be behind for long.

This affects globalization because planes are the main way in which we are connected physically. Not only does this affect our access to one another when planes start to fail at their job, but it also hurts the industry. These failing planes cannot be used for safety reasons which is causing airlines to lose money. This will change a lot about the trust that we put in planes and airlines and could cause the airlines to lose money in the long run. If this becomes a more common occurrence the industry could shrink and maybe even at some point become a lesser form of transportation.

Tension is building between the United States and Russia over the happenings in Venezuela. The two countries, which support different sides in this Venezuelan tension seem to be stepping on each-others toes. Concerns grow for the US as seemingly suspicious Russia military planes with no explanation were seen stopped in Venezuela and it seems that the Russians have begun to create defenses against the US in Venezuela.

This is related to globalization because it deals with the affairs and relationships between countries around the world. It brings up the question: "How much should we involve ourselves in the affairs of other countries and is it even our right or responsibility to do so? Because the world has become so connected through globalization the things that happen all around the world make more of a difference in the lives of our country, meaning that it has become more of a priority to "aid" other countries when we feel that the need arises. Things like this, arguments and maybe even the possibility of war can change the way that our trade works too. Agreements that we currently have with Russia would be put to the side if we enter a major conflict with them. Because of globalization and the way that we have all been so tightly brought together through it one little (or big) thing can change the way that our country runs.

Google owes money to the EU over copyright issues. Because copyright guidelines are very outdated for the EU they have begun to talk about the changes that should be made. In order to protect works and allow them to get the pay that they deserve some sort of restrictions must be put in place.

This relates to globalization because technology has a lot to do with the way that we share things across the globe. We can look up a well known piece of art and find it within seconds. Things can be easily updated without the creator getting the compensation that they deserve. This becomes a problem because this allows people to create works without their deserved credit. The even bigger problem, however is that this can become a problem to our internet freedom. The EU is considering scanning everything that goes on the internet which is a total limit on the freedom of the people, what should they be allowed to remove and what shouldn't they be allowed to remove?

5g farming may be used to create enough food for the huge population in the future. It will allow farming to become more efficient by controlling farm activity remotely. The UK is testing this on a few different farms.

This relates to globalization because it solves the problem of buying locally. It makes food more easily grown and accessible. It helps us to solve some of the problems of globalization because it focuses on how many people there are going to be in the future and solving those problems before we ever face them.
It also increases globalization because it makes the farming industry more globalized. If livestock and crops are hooked up to technology they help to support the growth of technology that fuels much of globalization. There are good things that come from this because we are all going to have food, but i think that it is concerning to hook up everything in our lives with technology.

5G is next generation wireless network. It is 10 times faster than the current 4G network. Better connection between many technologies. This creates a much stronger signal, however it does not reach as far. In order to cover the whole united states it would cost $300 billion in total.

This is important to globalization because technology has a lot to do with the way that we connect and communicate around the world. Stronger signals mean that we are better connected. This also relates to the economical side of globalization. This will probably change a lot of things in our economy. I think that it will also reduce our need to travel because we can use it to make the world seem a lot more closely tied together. It will definitely change a lot about globalization.
