After then, I’ve been caught up to every news of this case, along with the memes. It felt like something far far away from me and my family, but those thoughts were obviously a mistake. In school (Friends Academy in NY) teachers started talking about how “everything will be okay”, and that “yes we will stay in school (not going online), and the school will sanitize everything and anything to keep you guys safe”. A few weeks later though, the state death rate started sky rocketing, and the school went virtual. It was a new experience for sure, but it seemed nice to be able to stay home and do work. It was not until the virus started invading my habits personally, that I started to despise it. First, we had to cancel the trip to Disney World in the summer (in NY, going to Disney World is the one of the biggest bragging rights. Unlike here, where everyone hates on Disney World, and prefers Disneyland, or Universal.). Next, I had to start recording videos of me dancing, singing, and playing my instrument for dance class, chorus, and band respectively. I never liked the dance class, and was only taking it because the school required all elementary children to participate, and having to take time out of my day to practice and record it was just too much for me. I’ve also heard MANY horrifying stories regarding covid. The most memorable one was where a lonely grandfather living with his grandson had passed away in the bathroom. The grandfather had contacted the virus and died, but the grandson was too young to understand. The child thought he was asleep, and gave him blankets and pillows in the bathroom to sleep with. The body was only eventually found by a neighbor after it started to smell. Uncertain, not knowing where to go or what to do, knowing the russian army marching towards them every second. The possibility that at any second, a bomb could be dropped on the top of your head. The same with russians, marching towards an unclear goal, your eyes and mind obscured from the clear truth. Everything playing on the TV, everything in the news, all of the propaganda stopping your from hearing the other side. Ukraine has been beaten to a wasteland, and civilians tried to evacuate the best they could, but even so, many were still trapped.
