My biggest project was an acrylic painting—using the largest canvas I ever have—and I had a lot of fun filling it up.

In this piece I experimented with stippling and pointillism, the technique of using dots, rather than lines, to form an image and imply line and value. The subject of this piece is a figure from my imagination, using a couple of reference images for parts of the face and hair. -I first drew a sketch on a paper, then I scratched it on a scratchboard trying to imitate my sketch; for the background I didn't know what I am going to do with it so I drew cage-like patterns and added a tree and a forest representing the wildlife
-I made a bold attempt by scratching out a lot of white for the hand, which can be devastating, but it turned out looking pretty cool
-overall, I am very proud of this work since the hand texture is pretty realistic, as well as the fur of the tiger. This is my first time doing scratch art, so in this project I learned a lot of skills about scratch drawings. But if I were to improve my work, I would spend more time think about what to do with the background. I took a picture of my sister and then I did my best to recreate it through drawing digitally on my IPad through the app procreate. I then created a collaged background of newspaper articles featuring things that interest my sister Ellie: politics and presidential debate. After that, I wanted to take my art one step further to make it less boring, and the yellow of her shirt just made me think of flowers. As someone pursuing medicine it does not surprise me that I cut her head open and collaged flowers coming out, though I didn't realize it was strange until my mother pointed it out. -I first drew it on a sketch paper, then traced it to the final paper, where I later added more details (such as the logos of games and characters in a game) and colors (black and gray)
-my artistic intent was the imaginary/virtual world of my gaming experience; it is like going to the other side of the computer into a different world
-Overall, I am pretty proud of accomplishing this work, since I feel like the texture and fading sketching is pretty good, and it is pretty realistic and looks cool. I think that if I had more time, instead of using just pencils, I can use color pencils, which can make it more colorful and even cooler. This is my first piece this year, so I learned a lot about getting my inspiration and ideas.I have grown a lot throughout this year

I fell in love with the way the acrylic pour creates such fun patterns and cells. This one is my favorite, it is a dirty pour, which means I used only the leftovers of previous pours, and I LOVE the results. This was the first time I used encaustics and I enjoyed how easily I could change the flow of my artwork but that also posed a challenge. This piece is rooted in the ideas of consumerism and consumption and how the realities are often buried behind brightness and beauty.

Artist statement: on this piece I wanted to look back into my ancestory and do a piece related to my mothers Native American side. With this sculpture I wanted to encorporate common figures of the totem pole (I have a bear, a wolf, and an eagle on mine). Once I had finished with sculpting I had a long break due to the drying process. After a couple of weeks I got it fired and started working with wax. The beginning was a little rough in that I was not getting what I wanted out of the wax and it was to bright and vibrant. I decided to rub in some black oil paint to help Decrease the vibrancy. Statement:
I wanted to add a human like aspect to our digital photography assignment that would make non-living items come to life. I used a statue and fake butterfly along with some flowers in my backyard to create a stage where the statue and butterfly seem to come to life. Once I placed all of the objects in position, I realized that with the light source in the photo and the different elements of color that the photo did seem almost life like. During quarantine, I haven't had access to a lot of materials, so I decided to stick with some basics: pencil and ink. I would sketch out a rough design of what I had in mind and progressively cleaned it up until my sketch was ready to be inked. I've always been drawn(pun intended) to the ink medium and have learned a lot through my 4 art pieces. I have learned how to be patient, how to be gentle, and how to be perceptive. Artist statement: I wanted to make something small but something that was also practical. Limestone rocks and sediment

This sculpture was one I made on a hill as part of an eco art project in which I took a bunch of fossilferous limestone in a ditch near my house and arranged it in different patterns to make a coliseum-like structure. This is a bowl I made and later painted with engobes. Artist's Statement (excerpt):

I think that this was a very important year for me in art because I was able to confront more personal thoughts and feelings that I usually would have strayed away from in the past years. I would not have been able to complete projects like Me and my OCD or Cosmira v Nihilism without being confronted with huge swaths of anxiety because they deal with dark and depressing topics. I guess that the art pieces I produced this year are more of a tribute to accepting myself in ways that I haven’t been able to before and showing that to the world. I also think that this year was a year of ambition, where I really pushed the boundaries of the mediums I used to make powerful pieces. I made my first complete digital comics this year, a bunch of mixed media, and am working on a sculpture that may be one of the most ambitious art projects I have ever done. Overall, I am very proud of what I have done this year, and have high hopes that next year will be even better.

Artist Statement:
Throughout the school year 2019~2020 in VS1, I tried a variety of material including color pens, sharpies, carving and printing materials, acrylic paints, etc. I really love using thin color pens in detail, and I enjoy creating abstract art, which I have never tried before. I am exploring the arts in nature(Tropical cyclones, starry skies) or other static scenes(buildings, cities). I really don't mean to transmit a huge, huge theme behind my work about the universe or something. I simply enjoy the arts, I hope you will enjoy that as well.

Artist Statement
This year I mainly focused on my own imagination about a future world and how I implement these futuristic elements into my design. I’m trying to figure out what exactly gives off the kind of sci-fi vibes we see in famous sci-fi movies like the Blade Runner or Interstellar. To put it more simply, I’m trying to discover what does it mean to be futuristic. Because of this, I’ve taken a recent interest in visual effects, as 2d designs have its own limitations but 3d designs can almost always be incorporated into 2d designs. In class, I learned the basic elements of Photoshop such as cropping, masking and compositing images. However, I also used a 3d computer graphics program called Blender to create some basic but aesthetically pleasing animations that can be incorporated into my design as a single frame image. My ultimate goal is to be able to create 3d models from 2d images, combining the best of two worlds together. My greatest strength as a designer would be my appreciation of aesthetics in general. I may not have the necessary skill but I know what makes a design look good. I have the basic judgement on what right color to use or the type of font looks better. Ultimately, graphic design is just like books or movies, its sole purpose is to convey some kind of abstract feelings that cannot be described by words.
