This story is about a mischievous little boy who is not ready for bed and decides to make it everyone else's problem. Each time someone puts him to bed he sings loud and proud for the whole house to hear. Eventually the police get involved and everyone in the house is amongst chaos, when upstairs little Mortimer was tuckered out by his games and fast asleep. I enjoy this book for the artwork, the comedic parts and the anticlimactic ending. (kailin)

I really like this book because it highlights the meaning of ‘waiting’ (which is a part of a child’s experience), the patience of it and embracing the unexpected with natural flow of life.

Waiting is a normal part of childhood like whether they’re waiting for their next birthday or to grow up

There are 5 toys who are happy to wait, just simply observing the world. You can see that waiting and patience can bring a lot (e.g., rainbow, fireworks, snow). One day a cat with patches joins them and the surprise is that it opens up and now there are 5 cats (total of 5 toys).

It teaches about patience and to notice the world around them. Find excitement in both waited events and unexpected events/surprises.

The pet temper continues to cause trouble for Sam throughout the book, and when asked why he is behaving this way he blames "his temper". His mom tells him he needs to learn how to handle his temper because no one will do it for him. One day at the playground the temper is scaring away Sams friends and he has enough. He grabs hold of the temper, and uses different strategies like deep breathing and counting down from ten to calm down. All the sudden the temper relaxes and finally leaves him alone. Next time, Sam will know how to manage his temper.

It discusses the importance of experiencing community, whether it be family or a larger community. This book has many themes, including land and the importance of feeling community. In a classroom setting, this book could be used to talk about family traditions, cultural food, and celebrating cultures, as well as heritage. It provides a representation of marginalized communities. This book also has lovely artistic illustrations.

Almost everyone is familiar with the story of the Three Little Pigs but according to A. Wolf, you aren't familiar with the TRUE story of what actually occurred. Jon Scieszka illustrates a fun and interesting book which describes what the wolf actually believes what happened on the day he ate the pigs. The book teaches the fact that there are multiple versions of the same story and discusses misinformation and forming your own opinion on a topic. It is now time for you to make your own deductions over what actually happened on that day!

For example; showers, rivers, oceans, lakes, pools, puddles etc. The end of the book discusses the water cycle, the forms of water and how to conserve water. An important lesson for all students! I would imagine this picturebook would be a great way to introduce a new topic or be combined into a science class.

This is a story about a young boy and his father. Every morning the father would wake up his son by going in his room and saying "Knock Knock." One day the boys father never comes to wake him up; the boy then begins to reflect on his life and all of the things that he will now have to do without his dad. Days go on and the boys father does not return, so he decides to leave out a note asking his father how he will do certain things without him. After some time he receives a letter back telling him to live his life to the fullest, and how to do certain things. Years then go on and the boy begins to grow up without the presence of his dad. He learns to make his favourite meal, he learns to shave properly and more. I will not spoil the ending, but this story was very emotional and it's beautiful illustration does a good job of depicting such a real life situation in a way that anyone could relate to or understand.

Have you ever felt like you don't belong? Eyes That Weave the World’s Wonders follows the story of a young Chinese transracial adoptee who often feels this way. Her eyes look different from her family's, and she often feels discouraged because of this. But as she reflects on her life, she begins to see that what makes her different is what also makes her who she is. She goes on a journey to art museums, family portraits, memories of her birth culture, and loving moments with her adoptive family. She learns to embrace and love the parts of her identity that once felt confusing. This picture book shows that family is not just blood or looks, but what holds love, story, and acceptance together.

This book was really emotional for me as a transracial adoptee myself. I felt super connected to this book as I have grown up with these exact feelings. I wish I could've had these kinds of books when I was a kid; ones that embrace differences and allow children to explore the complexities of identity.
