"B.F. Skinner criticizes the cognitive approach as he believes that only external stimulus - response behavior should be studied as this can be scientifically measured. Therefore, mediation processes (between stimulus and response) do not exist as they cannot be seen and measured. Skinner continues to find problems with cognitive research methods, namely introspection (as used by Wilhelm Wundt) due to its subjective and unscientific nature."

McLeod, S. A. (2007).

Cognitive psychology focuses on the way humans process information. In the cognitive view, the mind is like a computor, we process information. Also they study internal processes like perception,in order to receive information from the outside world we have sense organs.(eyes, ears, nose) Attention is a internal process because language, memory and finally thinking . The cognitive psychologists are often criticized because they don't focus on emotion, instead they focus on scientific reasons, like experiments. The experiments are well thought and controlled by the psychologist. The experiments are done in everyday life and the psychologists decides that time, date, place and any other controllable variable.

Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_psychology

1. What is the History and Objective to Cognitive Psychology?

Objective of Cognitive Psychology:
Cognitive psychology is the scientific study of mind and mental function, including learning, memory, attention, perception, reasoning, language, conceptual development, and decision making. The modern study of cognition rests on the premise that the brain can be understood as a complex computing system.

History of Cognitive Psychology:
* Norbert Wiener (1948) published Cybernetics: or Control and Communication in the Animal and the Machine, introducing terms such as input and output.
* Tolman (1948) work on cognitive maps – training rats in mazes, showed that animals had internal representation of behavior.
* Birth of Cognitive Psychology often dated back to George Miller’s (1956) “The Magical Number 7 Plus or Minus 2.”
* Newell and Simon’s (1972) development of the General Problem Solver.
* In 1960, Miller founded the Center for Cognitive Studies at Harvard with famous cognitivist developmentalist, Jerome Bruner.
* Ulric Neisser (1967) publishes "Cognitive Psychology", which marks the official beginning of the cognitive approach.
* Process models of memory Atkinson & Shiffrin’s (1968) Multi Store Model.
Cognitive approach highly influential in all areas of psychology (e.g. biological, social, behaviorism, development etc.).

Focus of Cognitive Psychology History: Through out the past years that Cognitive Psychology has been developed they have always been focusing on mental functions, but after a few years of research they have learned that there is more to it. It started out as a simple science back in the early 1900’s. After time has gone on they have now came up with new ideas and expand the area that Cognitive Psychology covers. Moving into the 21 first Century they now want to think of our brains as computer systems and try to understand how that would work. Because in all reality our brains are mini computers.
