Examine what you contribute to society, that could be impacting how society functions. It is important to give a voice and to listen to those who are mostly affected by social justice issues, so that we can all work together to push social change.

Equity

Equity definition?

Equity refers to maintaining the idea of fairness and creating an equal balance where imbalances are present.

What does it have to do with social justice?

In the social justice field, we learn about how we can provide others with the same opportunities as others so that they can be on the same level as everyone else regardless of certain factors or disadvantages that affect them. Equity in social justice means being able to recognize the idea that not everyone will start out on the same level as others and will require different needs in order for them to reach the same level as others.

How does it make it different from other
definitions?

I say equity makes it different from other definitions because it's a different solution than some other definitions. For example, Equity is the quality of fairness while Equality is the quality of everyone being the same/equal. if there's a 5’7 fence, 3 people 3 blocks, somebody 3’7, 5’5, 6ft and were all trying to see what's over the fence equality would give everybody 1 block and that means the short 3’7 guy can't see over the fence but equity would give the short guy 2 blocks and 6ft guy no blocks. That would make it fair for everyone so everyone can see over the fence. Therefore equity is different from equality because it values fairness over sameness.
