The tropical rainforest is the home to the Orangutans, but if Orangutans were to go extinct the other dependable animals would lose their abundance of biodiversity and plant biodiversity, this is because Orangutans are a keystone species. A keystone species is a species that other animals depend on. With the low biodiversity, there will be a lower chance of the forest recovering, and even so, the forest would recover slow.

The Orangutans are a Keystone species because, they "They play a vital role in seed dispersal and in maintaining the health of the forest ecosystem, which is important for people and a host of other animals, including tigers, Asian elephants and Sumatran rhinos. So by conserving the orangutan's habitat, we're also benefiting local communities and other species".
Information source:Orangutans. Save the Orangutan, Save the Ecosystem,

(2020).

BEFORE The Orangutans endangered - "In the topical rainforests of Borneo, scientists have documented more than 15,000 plant species, including 2,500 species of orchids! Biologists estimate that tropical rainforests contain about 50% of the world’s terrestrial plant and animal species, yet they encompass only about 6% of the world’s land area".
The main cause of the population decline in numbers and becoming endangered is from logging to deforestation. "Habitat loss is by far the greatest threat to orang-utans. Huge tracts of forest have been cleared throughout their range and the land used for agriculture, particularly palm oil - a product that is found in more than half of packaged products in supermarkets around the world". There are currently about 35,000 left in the wild.

Infoeramtion source:AMGEN Foundation. “Tropical Rainforest Biomes.” Khan Academy, Khan Academy, 2021,

www.khanacademy.org/science/biology/ecology/biogeography/a/tropical-rainforest-biomes
Orangutans. Save the Orangutan, Save the Ecosystem,

(2020).

"Nevertheless, it might just be the orangutan that is an important key to conserving a high proportion of these endangered species. Orangutans are an ideal umbrella species. The main reason for using orangutans as an umbrella species is their habitat size requirement". Orangutans actually affect the whole ecosystems of the rainforest because it starts with vegetation which is at the first step and for most, the most important step in making a healthy and good ecosystem cycle, because of the diverse plant species as said in post C.

There has been a decline from 45 percent to possibly reaching 75 percent of vegetation biodiversity, and leading on to animals is about 40 percent loss,. in biodiversity and the abundance of materials and food for all the animals which is the main reason why there is a loss. It is unknown to the endangered species or maybe extinct because of the speed there has been there can be very little notice.
Information source: MONTANA HULL,Save the ORANGUTAN, save the ecosystem.

There are many actions to help with this, but its very complicated because a new law can increase the demand of something or rare item goes up because of the law and leading to for deforestation, so for one example, if your where to decr4ease the demand of meat overall for the whole world somehow there would be less deforestation and more space for Orangutans. I predict a slow and a constant rate of less deforestation, and maybe in a one year or at most three the deforestation would stop rapidly and the logging would be so little that it would make it easer for the government to spend more time putting the logger in jail because of the low number and in ten year the forest would have a constant rate of revival.

It would take up at most 10 years to be at least 50 or 75 percent of its original population in 1970. That would be the weeds in the rainforest and the overpopulated animals that were affected by the decline of orangutans. It has its whole ecosystem back to its permaculture state by seeing the forest come back by itself with very little help with us.
source:https://www.nybg.org/blogs/plant-talk/tag/rainforest/
