New Zealand is currently ruled by the British and governed by a house of representatives. The leader of the house and all its branches is John Key. He is the head of New Zealand and makes sure that people are doing their jobs. Some odd laws in New Zealand are that you can’t ride in a hot air balloon with a rooster and that a cat can the leave the house without 3 bells around their necks.

New Zealand revolves around a very mixed economy. They have manufacturing and agriculture and their exports keep it steady. As of now, they are doing good and keeping up with imports and exports to keep the economy steady. They export many things but some of the most regular ones would be dairy, meat, wood, and fruit. Some things that they have imported are cars, crude petroleum, and computers.

New Zealand uses the New Zealand Dollar as their currency. In 1967 this is what they switched to after previously using british pounds and is now worth .55 of the pound. They switched because since they were being ruled by the British, and then they gained their independence, they wanted currency for their own country since they had been ruled by somebody else. New Zealand’s average household income is 85,000 New Zealand Dollars. Converted to US. money, one New Zealand Dollar is worth .73 of 1 US dollar.

A key historical event in New Zealand was when they became the first country to have national women's voting rights. Many people worked hard for this but Kate Sheppard was a standout among them. She held strikes and protests to gain rights for herself and many hard working women around the globe. A holiday that is celebrated in New Zealand is called Waitangi Day This celebrates a treaty between the Waitangi and the Maori people of New Zealand. Celebrated with family meetings, celebrations, and parades on February 6th, this is the “national day” of New Zealand.

Otherwise, everyday New Zealanders are very casual even to special events or work. People of New Zealand also get a very good education. Since the literacy rate is 99%, we know that many people can probably read and write, which means that they have attended school. Public schooling is free for children when they go to school from ages 6-15. They also have private school options too. There are only 6 college universities in New Zealand and students attend at ages 17 or 18. Most kids would stop their schooling at age 15 to work though.

The color blue represents the sky and the sea. Lastly, there are three red stars on the flag. Those are there because they were part of New Zealand's old flag before they were ruled by the British. The flag is used when in celebrations, honorable times, and generally flown every day. You can freely use the flag unless you disrespect your country with it. In this case you could be prosecuted.
