Are there universal symbols that arise from the context of the poem?

The poem writes as personifying the spider, and putting the reader in the perspective of the spider. During the reading the spider performs the action of " Filament, filament, filament". Which follows the phrase of "exploring wast surrounding". This can be seen as a symbol of an attempt at interaction with society.

What images does the poet use? How do the images relate to one another? Do these images form a unified pattern (a motif) throughout the poem?

The poet uses the image of a spider alone on a platform and says that the spider is shooting out filament to connect to something. The poet then relates this image to a soul being alone in a vast open space, wondering aimlessly. Then the soul finally connects to someone / something when the author says "till the bridge you will need be form'd, till the ductile anchor hold". These both relate, as the spider is supposed to represent the soul and the filament represents the "bridges" the soul needs to build.

How important is the contribution of form, such as rhyme scheme and line arrangement? How does form influence the overall effect of the poem?

Line arrangement is very important in this poem, as the first stanza and the second stanza relate to each other, the gap between the stanzas help the reader understand the relationship they have with each other; at the same time creates a line between the two for the reader to be able to draw lines that connect the two. As the first stanza begins with "A noiseless patient spider" indicates the first stanza is all about the spider and the second stanza begins with "And you O my soul where you stand..." indicates a switch to the poets soul. This allows the reader to be able to compare the two line by line and understand the meaning behind the poem.

What is the theme (central idea) of the poem?

This can be used as an example of theme, if you fail keep trying. The author attempts to show this to the readers, throughout the poem that despite his failure of on forming relations when interacting; he feels that his soul while not fulfilled, is content.
