Many times Beowulf displayed wisdom even when he was unaware of it. Like before the battle with Grendel he decided to take him on without the use of weapons, which would prove to one wise because Grendel cast a spell on himself that made it so that weapons could not harm him. He also realizes that Grendel's mother can't be killed by human weapons so he used a weapon that was found in the watery cave.

Many times Beowulf displays many courageous feats such as defeating Grendel in hand to hand combat single handedly. Just before this when he arrived in Denmark he boasted about the many deeds he had committed while in Geatland. After he bested Grendel in combat this backed up his boast from earlier. Later he would go on to face Grendel's mother in her own lair. This was one of his greatest feats of bravery. His final feat of bravery was fighting alongside his most loyal thane against a dragon that was terrorizing his people.

This is shown by the loyalty between Beowulf and King Hrothgar due to the kindness the king showed Beowulf's father when his enemies tried to kill him and he payed them a bounty in treasures. This is later shown when Beowulf is an old king of the Geats and his Kingdom is attacked by a dragon. When his thanes run away only one came back to help him due to his unwavering loyalty to his king, so he fights alongside his king and witnesses his death.
