Communication

Class Dojo will be used as my main form of communication. Please make sure to join the class and turn on notifications. This is where I will send private messages concerning your child and general information as a whole. This is also where you can send me messages with questions and concerns about your child. If you message after 5 p.m., I may not receive the message until the next school day.

Each month your student will receive a new calendar in their folder. This has what we will be learning and any events we may have.

The calendar also has a behavior log on it. Please initial this nightly. Let's work together to make your student's year successful!

Please get your child to school on time. Arrival begins at 8:15 a.m. ALL students must be in class by 8:30 a.m. or he/she will be counted as tardy. If your child is absent, please send me a message on DOJO and send a doctor or parent/guardian note when your child returns to school (either DOJO or on paper). This note must be submitted as soon as possible.

At the end of the day, I will mark your student's calendar with a color to indicate how their day was. Please initial this nightly.

This is to help keep you informed about their day in school. I will always reach out on Dojo or by phone call if we need to discuss a behavior. At the end of each week, if a student has all blue or green marked on their calendar, they will go to Treasure Box!

I believe in keeping an open line of communication with families on behavior, so that we can ensure your child has all of the tools they need to thrive in school!

Everyone must fill out a transportation form to let me know how their child will be going home from school. If your child's transportation method changes, please send me a DOJO to let me know. I will message you back as soon as I receive the message to confirm. If I DO NOT confirm before 1:00 p.m., please call the the front office. This could be due to lack of service, being in a meeting, being absent etc. I want to ensure your child is where they need to be to get home safely!

Car Riders

If your child is a car rider, you will need a car tag to pick up your child. If you do not have a car rider tag you will need to park your car and go to the front doors to show your I.D. This will be issued to you as soon as possible. If you need more than one, please let me know. ALL Kindergarten car riders will be dismissed at the front of the school. If your kindergartener has an older sibling, this year, the older sibling will ALSO dismiss from the front of the school.

Please move your kindergarten student's car/booster seat the the rear passenger side to ensure we can quickly load kids. If your child needs assistance buckling, please pull forward to help them buckle.

i-Ready

Each student is required to complete 45 minutes/ 2 lessons of iReady Math, weekly. All students will have opportunities during the school days to complete their lessons.

Breakfast and lunch are free to all students in the building. You can also bring your own lunch to school in a lunchbox/bag. If your child wants chips, cookies, or ice cream they can either bring money and turn it in to the cafeteria in the morning or you can log into your School Café account and add money directly to their account. If you submit money, please let your child know so he or she knows to get it when going through the lunch line.

The line for school breakfast can get long! If your student will be eating breakfast at school, please be aware of timing. We will clean breakfast up promptly at 8:30 a.m.

Snacks

Items from Home

Please do not allow your child to bring any toys, jewelry, purses, books, stuffed animals, blankets, or other items from home!
These items are a major interruption to your child's day and can create a problem for the rest of the class. They may also be stolen, broken, or lost. If an exception to this is made, I will post on DOJO.

Birthdays

If you would like your child to celebrate his or her birthday in our classroom, you may bring store bought goodies to school for them to share OR you can purchase goodies from the school's cafeteria.

Phonological Awareness & Phonemic Awareness

Phonological awareness is the ability to recognize and manipulate the spoken parts of sentences and words. Examples include being able to identify words that rhyme, recognizing alliteration, segmenting a sentence into words, identifying the syllables in a word, and blending and segmenting onset-rimes.

Phonemic awareness is the ability to notice, think about, and work with the individual sounds (phonemes) in spoken words. This includes blending sounds into words, segmenting words into sounds, and deleting and playing with the sounds in spoken words.

Research shows that students with strong phonological and phonemic awareness are more likely to being successful readers!

Take Home Folders

Please check and empty your child's folder nightly. Their work from the day will be there. I will also send home any extra communication about events, notes from the teacher, etc. through the folder.

Reading Modules

We use EL Education Modules for our Reading Curriculum. This is our Knowledge building block where students learn about Toys and Play, Weather, and Trees over four modules. Skills Block

Our Skills Block curriculum is EL Education. In this class, students learn their letter names, letter sounds, how to read, how to write, rhyming, syllables, and syllable manipulation. This class is the foundation for everything they will do throughout their schooling.

Math

Our Math curriculum is iReady Classroom. Students will learn how to compose and decompose numbers, count to 100, add and subtract, among other things. Students will also have access to iReady's online curriculum where they will complete lessons and play learning games on Chromebooks during class. They will also take iReady Diagnostics three times a year.

Beginning of the Year Homework

My "Why"... I believe that every student is capable of learning and deserves a teacher who believes in them. The student's in my classroom are our future and it is an honor to help set them up for success.

My classroom has been, and always will be, rooted in love for my students and their love for each other. From day one we build a classroom family within these four walls. We work together to grow and become better, every single day. Watching my students grow, not only as scholars, but as people who love and care for those around them, is the best part of what I do.
