Germany lost Alsace-Lorriane and the Saar Coal region to France. Germany had to give up territory between Germany and East Prussia to form the polish corridor to give Poland independent access to the sea. Germany was also not allowed to unite with Austria. Hence, their army was too weak  to defend against intruders coming to steal their natural resources as payment for the damages done during the war. Having no army in the Rhineland means that Germany is vulnerable for intruders from France to invade Germany's territory.
