Anger is a mixture of multiple emotions, which triggers many hormones. For instance, when you are angry, Adrenaline is instantaneously pumped through your body. Allowing you to appear stronger, faster, and even bigger sometimes.

Now, most animals use this as a tactic to scare predators away. Half the time, it works. For instance, when geese get angry and go after something, or simply just get angry, they hiss and fluff up their feathers. Then at times, they flap their wings furiously, to make it seem like they are much much bigger.

This has become an adaptation mainly because prey make themselves look bigger, and like birds, they adapted to have feathers to be able to fly, as well as fluff them up to make themselves look better. Or some animals are able to raise their hair to make themselves look bigger.
