Remake of Indigenous People and the Environment by Stefanie Fallis

Answer this question: After hearing the song, and reading the quotes, what role do you think the environment plays in the Indigenous culture? What are the differences between how Indigenous Peoples view the environment and the typical North American view? Why did the quote you chose resonate with you?

The quote I chose was "Man's heart away from nature gets hard" Environment plays a huge role in indigenous life. It provides them with food, materials, and much more. Indigenous people lived much differently from us. They used longhouses and wigwams as their houses. We live in houses made of brick and wood and they look much different. Indigenous people gather meat from hunting animals on their own. We have people who have the job to hunt and sell the meat. We also create clothing from wool while they did it with animal hides. The need to preserve trees and animals so that they have enough materials to live. They respect nature a lot and they clearly respect it more than us. I think the quote meant that if you are not in nature enough, your heart gets dry. Indigenous people NEED the nature and we should respect nature as much as they do!

The quote it chose is " man's heart away from nature becomes hard" I think the environment plays in the indigenous cultre it is there life they love it. They make sure to treat them like how they want to be treated and when they hunt they make sure not to waste one part of the animal. I think indigenous people treat the nature way different then northen people because they make sure that no nature goes to waste and treat nature like humans. I chose that quote because it makes me feel like we would not be alive with out nature. With out trees we would not be able to breathe with out animals we could not eat. So all we can do is say thanks to the nature.

"Don't think the measure of a civilization is how tall its buildings of concrete are but rather its people have learned to relate to their environment and fellow man." I think that indigenous people are a big role in the environment and if someone was trying to tear down where they live and the environment they would try to stop it because I think indigenous people and their religion our close to nature. The difference between the indigenous view and non indigenous people that live in north america is how they see things and how close they are to nature. I chose this quote because if you and your community or neighbours get along then I think that's better than hating your community or neighbours and living in a skyscraper or a fancy area.

It is a great quote because it is saying that nature makes a life better and if you don't respect they have a hard heart. This connects to the indigenous people because the respect nature and they have great hearts. This connects to me because I love animals in nature and they make me smile. I think this is a really really nice quote.

I chose this quote because it says that we should stop focusing on making as much money as possible, but taking care of and respecting nature. I think this because in the quote it says that when we have lost all of our food and resources to money, we realize it has no meaning.
In Indigenous culture, the environment plays the role of a source of beauty and resources (They only get what they need so it doesn't impact nature). Compared to North American views, where the environment is seen as just resources. North Americans think that the environment doesn't matter and just another source of money. Things are getting better though, and advances are being made to respect the environment.

I think the environment takes a big role in the indigenous culture because we read in class that the environment is a really important part to them because they use it for shelture, food, clothing, toys and even jewellery. They feel it's a person too because they say it has a name, spirit and mind. However, the typical north american view of the environment is it is used for just resourses and building homes. The quote "“Man's heart away from nature becomes hard" really got to my heart because it's symbolizing how the environment is really important for both mental and physical health because when you say the heart becomes hard it can mean "becomes hard" in a mental and physical way. I think being physically healthy and mentally healthy is very important because you can't live without it.

I chose the quote "Man's heart away from nature becomes hard" i think it shows that the environment really does play a big role in a indigenous persons life because its how they make their tools, how they entertain themselves and they never kill more than they need to, don't waste their food, don't pollute the water, and really respect it. The difference between how the indigenous and the average north american view the environment is that the indigenous people respect it and take care of it and see it as their friend but the average north american doesn't care about it. This quote resonates with me because the environment is a part of us and when we kill it off than there's something missing in our lives

I chose the quote "man's heart away from nature becomes hard." I chose this quote because I believe that it's true. If someone spends most or all of their life out of nature they will probably be stern and not appreciate the wonders of nature. Nature is beautiful and it's better than computers, buildings and more. The environment plays a big role in indigenous culture because the indigenous peoples believe that everything has a life and you shouldn't take it away. The indigenous peoples were considerate about nature and they only did the stuff they had to. They didn't overkill or over hunt. The environment provided for the indigenous peoples and in exchange the Indigenous peoples cared for the environment. Indigenous peoples cared for the environment and thought that everything was equal and should live. On the other hand Northern Americans mostly only cared for themselves and didn't care if they hurt or killed nature. I really liked this quote because it told me that if we don't start connecting with nature more we will be more bitter and not care about our environment.

They would stop caring about it and all they would care about is making money. The indigenous people needed the environment to survive. They used wood to build shelter and tools. They used different animal hides and fur to make clothing. It gets rid of some of their tradition because they can't use the same things. For example, the indigenous people used lots of shells to make jewelry but now there are less shells in the world because of pollution so the indigenous people can't make as much jewelry.

The quote I chose is "we belong to the earth and the land provides." I chose this quote because I think that it is a great quote because the indigenous peoples took care of the earth and took edvantage of what they were taking and doing to the earth. They were really trying to be careful that they didn't take more then they needed. Another reason why I chose this quote is because some people are not taking edvantage of what the earth provides and taking more then they need. I think that it is sad that people today are not taking edvantage and taking more then they need. Unlike the indigenous peoples who would only take what they needed and I didn't think that they wanted to take that much from the earth but unlike us today they didn't have stores to go get food or cloths so they had to get all sorts of things from animals but they also tried to be careful from what they were taking. I think that people today should try to take more edvantage of the earth.

I chose this quote because the indigenous people took care of the environment and they did not waste anything the hunted or fished. If they did not do this, they would not be able to survive because they cannot trade with other countries. They didn't waste because they did not have any other choice. Meanwhile, we only use what we want and throw the rest away while we can use the entire thing.

I think the role of the environment is important to the indigenous culture because they are really connected to one another and they don't litter because they think the environment has to be protected. The difference from our life and the indigenous is that it was much harder to get food because they had to hunt for food but right now we can just by food. Another thing is that it is much more expensive now then then back then. Finally it was probably much harder to make houses because they don't have the tools we have right now to make houses also the houses are probably be harder to live in and more unsafe.

Another reason is because I think the environment plays a big role for the indigenous culture because they live in nature, eat food from the nature and even make clothing from nature. It also says that were apart of the earth and its able to provide us.

This quote really speaks to me because it teaches people that you have to use your natural recorces. The enviourment plays a big part in the indigenous culture because they realie on the earth and land. North America uses the enviourment diffrent becuase we can just go to stores but indigeness people had to hunt and use there resources.
