Bradbury was trying to relate books to what he thought the future was going to be like. He thought that because technology was advancing so fast, that by the 2000's, books would be so outdated that it was against the law to have them. As we know, this is not true, but he thought this. He thought that we would be so advanced that even houses would be so futuristic that they are fireproof!

A symbol is something that represents an item or an idea in a story. Faber says this quote to explain books to Montag. "The magic is only in what books say, how they stitched the patches of the universe together into one garment for us" (79 Bradbury). In this quote, Faber Explains the magic of books and how the knowledge within is what's most important.

"There is nothing magical in them, at all. The magic is only in what books say, how they stitched the patches of the universe together into one garment for us." (page 79 Bradbury) That whys Faber freaked out when the montage was destroying the book." This book has pores" (Bradbury 79) Pores are something only animals(humans) have. Mildred said books aren't people. Yet people who understand the value of books are willing to die for them.

"The Woman's" Opinion on Books and what it means for the story -

'The Woman', also known as the lady that burned with her books, has a very strong opinion on books as is apparent. When the firemen came to burn down her house, she says that she wants to stay with the house as it burns. "You can't ever have my books"(Bradbury 35). "No, thank you anyway... I want to stay here" she stated (Bradbury 36). She very well represents the small group of people that still have books because they want the freedom that books give them and without it, they would rather die.

There is a deeper meaning to books in this story. This would be that books represent censorship in their world. This is because it is taking away the ability to learn about the real past and have the freedom to say and write and read what they want. The government is taking away their freedom because if people have freedom, even one person, then not everybody will be happy.

Beatty is a fireman but unlike Montag Beatty isn't confused about what side he's on. In the book, Beatty reveals his opinions in this quote. "And if they're nonfiction, it's worse, one professor calling another an idiot, one philosopher screaming down another's gullet. All of them running about, putting out stars and extinguishing the sun" (59 Bradbury).
