To be human is to have innocence, which allows you to live and cope with the world. Pi sees himself in Richerd parker because "we look at an animal and see a mirror." (Martel 31) If PI symbolizes the innocence in a person; therefore, (comma conjunction) Richerd parker is a reflection of PI's primal nature that society does not accept. To cope with the reality that he had become an uncivilized beast on the lifeboat PI imagined Richerd Parker, a primal beast of nature, (appositive phrase) to preserve his innocence. PI's situation was not just an adventure, riding the untamed sea, (particle) but a journey of true acceptance of one's primal side to survive the harsh world and how to find the innocence to live in it.
