The Great Barrier Reef is being bleached in Australia.Sone of the causes for this are climate change, unnaturally hot water, carbon pollution, water pollution, over fishing, and coastal development. The effects of this issue is that over the next decade the Australian and Queensland government will have to spend 2 billion on the Reefs protection. An organization that has been working on helping reefs is The Nature Conservancy. This issue can be solved by reducing global carbon emissions, improve the water quality, manage fishing, costal development, pollution and shipping better. There is a lot of work that will need to be put in in order to help fix this important issue.

Coral bleaching is a global issue that is happening in reefs all over the world. Coral bleaching is when corals are stressed by changes in conditions like the temperature, light, or nutrients, this expels symbolic algae living in their tissues, causing the coral to turn white. This is happening in the Caribbean, Great Barrier Reef, and reefs all over the world.
The causes for this issue are warmer temperatures, colder temperatures, and climate change. Coral bleaching has been going for years and will soon become worse if action is not taken. Major bleaching events have happened in 2005-2006 it was worse than any of the previous years and the corals mortality was greatly increased. Coral reefs have been bleached for years and the only way to fix this global issue is to be aware of the causes and prevent this issue from recurring more frequently.
Factors:
Climate change, ocean acidification, diseases, overfishing, sedimentation, and pollution
The solutions to this global issue include reducing carbon emissions, improve water quality, manage fishing and pollution.
The coral restoration foundation and the Nature Conservancy are trying to prevent bleaching and preserving coral reefs.

I chose my topic because I was interested in it and I had never heard of it before. I had no idea that coral bleaching was a thing I knew that coral reefs like the Great Barrier Reef were being damaged by environmental issues but I didn’t realize how badly. To help fix this issue we can recycle plastic and other items to prevent them from getting into our oceans. We can also donate to organizations that are working to improve conditions in coral reefs.
When we started the project and we learned about the technologies we were going to use I had never used them before. Some challenges I encountered were the websites we had to use at first I had to get used to the format and the tools for each website but I quickly learned how to use them. If I were to do this project again I would look more into the organizations that help The Great Barrier Reef and other reefs around the world. I would like to learn about what they do and how they help the Reefs.
