Teacher Sarah and her class are about to do a cookery activity. Today, they will be baking cookies. Teacher Sarah is going to divide the class into 2 groups to use 2 different recipes to bake the cookie, one has baking soda in it, while the other recipe has does not have baking soda. They are investigating if the removal of the baking soda would have an effect on the cookie. For the first group, they did the recipe with the baking soda in the cookie. The second group did the recipe without the baking soda. After the children finish making the cookie batter and shaped the cookies on the baking tray, teacher Sarah placed the cookies in the oven. After the cookies were baked and cooled, teacher Sarah gathered the children over to a table and asked them to see if there is a difference in the appearance of the cookies made using the 2 recipes. One child said " the cookies with the baking soda is bigger"( bigger refers that the cookies managed to rise.) The children got to try the cookies and they realized that the texture of the 2 different types of cookies were different. They ended the session learning that baking soda makes the dough rise.
