The conflict that the character is facing is that the witches are trying to turn children into  mice. "Child arrives at school. Delayed Action Mouse-Maker immediately starts to vurrrk. Child starts to shrrrink. Child is starting to grow fur. Child is starting to grow tail. All is happening in prrreecisely twenty-six seconds. After twenty-six seconds, child is not child any longer. It is a mouse!"

To stop witches

The young boy wants to stop the witches from turning all children into mice. He would hope to stop them. "one bottle is enough for five hundred people," I said " That would give each and every witch down there a double dose at least. We could turn them all into mice"

His motivation is thinking what could happen to other children if he doesn't stop them. "Even so, Grandmamma, we've still got to stop her from turning all the children at England into mice."
