For this section, I used Google Slides to create a choose your own adventure story to use in my language arts classroom. It could also be used in science or as an advisory activity. For submission, I recorded a screencast of this story using Screencastify, and I answered the reflection questions on the menu of learning. However, I think it would be most beneficial here to share a link to the actual story I created, so that's what I'm doing.

My hope is to introduce this when we return to in-person learning so that it's familiar to the students when we move to remote learning. I also think that this would be a good tool to use in the classroom during a "normal" year when I might be working with a small group, other groups could be working on things independently. I am also creating Health Bitmoji classrooms for each grade level that will address the Health topics we cover.

Morgan, am I correct in thinking this is yours?

Best,
Jeannie

I've been working on compiling a mindful moments catalog and a brain breaks catalog to use in my classroom this year. It's easy to forgot to do them if you don't have them planned into the routine or already prepared in advance. My plan is to start every class with a mindful moment (using the google slides). If we have technology, the students will be able to access the mindful moments padlet during independent work when they need a break. In the past I've had a physical zen zone in my classroom, but with COVID I needed to be able to create something to replace that. It'll also be one student's job each day who is responsible for ringing the bell when they notice the whole class needs a brain break (I'll rotate through the class). They are both a work in progress.

It is my intention to use this Bitmoji classroom to help my new kindergarten students and families to familiarize themselves with our school, our classroom, and our usual online links for virtual learning. Not all of the symbols have links yet because I do not have my new class set up for our new specials schedule nor any new classes for online learning sites. Everything else is linked, however, and the families can find our rules, how we teach the numbers, how we teach the letters, the inclement weather policy, etc, etc.

As a Leader -in- Me school, each classroom is supposed to have their own Class Motto. I thought the stop-motion slide show would be a good, simple way to introduce ours. It was a total of 81 slides- I'm still messing with exactly what number I should put at the end of the link- it gives you 1000, but you can change that to make it flow smoother and quicker. I ended up at 300, but 450 might be better. It's all a guess.

In February 2021, the Ignite STEM Enrichment Program, which I coordinate, will hold a 6-hour camp experience for K-2 students entitled Super Snoopers. This lesson plan for the opening activity includes both a create-your-own-adventure story and a Jamboard to create student interest and tap into prior knowledge. Ideally, pairs of students will use Chromebooks to access the interactive pieces of this lesson. However, since the availability of technology at the camp’s 4 sites is always an issue, the plans have been written so that this could also be a whole class activity from the teacher computer. These interactive lesson pieces are appropriate because they will help to engage students in both the camp topic (detectives) and in the underlying concept presented (thinking in a scientific way). I do not actually teach Ignite so my implementation partners will be the 4 Ignite K-2 teachers. They will assist in setting up the Chromebooks; in evaluating this experience through observation of student interest and participation in the activity; and in providing feedback that will help in reflecting upon the lesson’s success and what, if any, adjustments might be needed. All of this can then be shared with the other individual who helps to coordinate Ignite.

I started with some assignments I know I will want to use and that align with our standards but still have a lot of work to do on it.
