         <description><![CDATA[<div>Athenians had a democratic government in which people hold the ruling power. All citizens in Athens could participate directly in the government which we now call a direct democracy.<br><br>Spartans had a government called an Oligarchy. Two kings ruled the city, but a 28-member council of elders limited their powers. These men were recruited from the highest social class, the aristocratic Spartiates.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Athens depended on trade. They often traded with nearby city states and foreign lands. Athens used a coin system t make trading easier. They also traded in a marketplace called the agora,<br><br>Spartans however didnt trade they used their slaves to produce goods. The people living in neighboring regions became slaves and were called helots. Instead of using coins like Athens they used long, heavy metal bars as money.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Athens boys were taught at home by their mothers or male slaves until the age of 6 or 7. Then went to school until the age of 14.Girls were taught to clean,cook,spin thread, and weave cloth.<br><br>Saran children were taught to fight. Boys started at the age of 6 or 7 and were taught to not cry when they were in pain. Some girls were also giving military training. They learned wrestling, boxing, footracing,and gymnastics.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Athenian women could not inherit or own much. They could not vote or attend the assembly. Most could not even choose their own husbands. Most Athenian&nbsp; who were not poor owned at least one slave.Some were even born into slavery. Others were forced into slavery as captives of war.<br><br>spartan women did not were jewlry or use cosmetics or perfume. They were free to speak to their husbands friends.women could also control their own property. spartan slaves were called helots. The helots could marry whomever and wherever they wanted. Helots who saved their money often bought their own freedom.</div>]]></description>
