Rioters broke many buildings and shops. One person was killed, 50 were injured and 200 arrested. Brixton is a district in South London

At 3pm crowds fell silent in tribute to the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire in which at least 80 people died. There was an acid attack and the police arrested 271 people : 61 were for drug offences, there were 17 public order arrests and 15 arrests for possession of weapon. Colourfully-dressed performers danced through the streets of Notting Hill, Westbourne Park and Ladbroke Grove along the 3.5 mile parade route.

Abbott was a researcher and reporter at Thames Television from 1980 to 1983 and then a researcher and reporter at the Breakfast Television Company T-V-Am from 1983 to 1985.

She became a Member of Parliament in 1987.

The Notting Hill Carnival was started because the Caribbean people suffered racial riots in 1958. The first Notting Hill Carnival was celebrated on the 18^th August 1966. It was inspired by the “hippie” London Free School. The Carnival turned into a street party for the neighbourhood.

The West Indian Gazette became the newspaper for Afro-Caribbeans. It was the first black newspaper in London.

It closed eight months and four editions after Claudia Jones death.
