Form a hypothesis that COVID-19 has / does not have an impact on athleisure sales and gen z's mental health → and then prove whether my hypothesis is correct using different findings and analysis with my research design ?

Sorry for the long question, I'm really anxious about this assessment and want to know if I'm on the right track!

Hi (Max here). Thanks for your question. Yes, that sounds like a good strategy, but try and make the two subthemes that you have identified into hypotheses, and then you can carry out an analysis on these hypotheses using the data you gather from SPSS etc. Remember your hypotheses must include what you are measuring (your dependent variable) and what influences what you are measuring (your independent variables).

1) Suppose i have come up with 3 hypotheses, would it be okay if the three are related to different sub-themes? Or do all 3 hypotheses have to be of the same theme? For example, can H1 be related to impact on sustainability, H2 related to impact on mental health, and H3 related to luxury market in China- for example. Would this structure be okay or do all 3 hypotheses have to be apart of one theme only?

2) Secondly, is it okay if one hypothesis has has a contradicting result from another hypothesis? OR do all of the hypotheses have to have a similar result? For example, can H1 be- "post covid-19 luxury market in China will continue thriving as part of physical retail ", but can H2 be - "covid-19 has caused consumers to shift to e-commerce and will continue doing so in the future."

Hi, thanks for your question regarding the hypotheses. Firstly, yes you can come up with different sub-themes in your hypotheses, but please ensure that there is a a constant "dependent variable" in your hypotheses which captures the bottom line of your research. In the case of your research is looks like your DV will be the presence of the pandemic and the independent variables which impact these will be sustainability, mental health and the impact of the luxury market.
Secondly, it doesn't matter if the results are contradictory, what matters if your explanation of why you think this result has occurred.
