I feel pity towards Shylock due to the discrimination he received from Antonio just because he is of a different religion. Antonio had many called Shylock a "misbeliever, cut-throat dog, and spit upon his Jewish gaberdine." This clearly shows that Shylock was receiving harsh treatment from Antonio because of their varying beliefs, and he had to withstand all of that in his life. In conclusion, I feel pity for Shylock due to Antonio's prejudice and cruel treatment and he had to endure for a long time.

I feel anger towards Shylock because of his cruel mindset. Portia told Shylock to have a surgeon nearby in case Antonio " [bleeds] to death" when Shylock cuts a pound of flesh from him. However, Shylock denied the request that the need for a Surgeon "[is] not in the bond." This evidently reflects Shylock's cruel mindset to let Antonio suffer while bleeding and later on die. In conclusion, I feel angry towards Shylock because he has an inhumane mindset to kill Antonio, and not give him a chance to live.

I feel compassion for Shylock because his own daughter, betrayed him and ran away with a Christian, together with Shylock's money. Therefore, Shylock was overwhelmed with grief, which is clearly seen Salanio stating that Shylock went about the streets yelling about the fact that Jessica "[fled] with a Christian," and two of his "sealed bag[s] of ducats, of double ducats," being stolen from his daughter when she fled away from his house.

I feel disgusted by Shylock due to his vicious mind, especially shown through his hate for Antonio. When Tubal informed Shylock that Antonio has lost all his ships at Sea, Shylock became ecstatic and claimed that he is "very glad of it," and that "he'll plague [Antonio], he'll torture him."

I feel concerned for Antonio since he must receive the forfeit of breaking the bond with Shylock. When Salanio told Antonio that the Duke will definitely stop this forfeiture, Antonio said that "The Duke cannot deny the course of law," and therefore he would have to die by the hands of Shylock.

I feel respect for Antonio since he does not try to lie and escape death by the hands of Shylock, but instead accepts his fate since he broke the bond. When Portia asked Antonio whether "he [confesses] the bond" in the court, he was well aware of the position he was at that moment and accepts the truth without any further objections.

I feel pity for Antonio since he had to bear the guilt of causing Bassanio's and Portia's heated argument. Antonio realised that it was himself who convinced Bassanio to give Portia's ring away, which in in turn caused Portia to get mad at Bassanio. Therefore, Antonio claimed that he was "th'unhappy subject of these quarrels." He realised his fault at the situation and therefore felt regretful because of the problems he had caused. In conclusion, I feel pity for Antonio due to him understanding the truth about how he was the reason for the anger Portia had towards Bassanio, and therefore had to bear the regret of noticing the truth.

I feel admiration for Antonio due to his care for his friends. Since he did not know where Gratiano was, he was worried for Gratiano and therefore "sent twenty men [to look] for [him]." This reflects how concerned he is for his friends, and in this case Gratiano, since he wanted to make sure that Gratiano was safe. In conclusion, I feel admiration towards Antonio because how thoughtful he is for his friends.
