- During the Ceremony of the Ones, they join a family unit
- In the ceremony of twelve, the elders of this community pick the ¨elevens¨ assignments
- Jonas´s father knew his title before the ceremony because he was always spending time with the newchildren
- Most ages in this communtiy had different rules, for example ¨ when you´re becoming an Eight, your comfort toy was taken away¨. I still sleep with my stuffed animals and almost fourteen.
- That means that Lily was soon going to lose her stuffed elephant because that was her comfort toy
- Sometimes the rules are broke, for example children that are under the age of 9 aren't allowed to ride a bike, but most children brake that rule because their older brothers and sisters teach them

Answers to Previous Questions:
1. I think they got called by their age because at certain ages they have different ceremonies.
4. Jonas was worried about the Ceremony of Twelves because at that ceremonie they recieve their assignment which is their job for the rest of their life.
5. ¨The Ceremony of Twelve¨ is a ceremonie where they get told their titles or jobs as we call them. The Elders who pick their titles watch the Elevens and decide what title their going to have.
6. There are so many ceremonies because at every age, they have a ceremony and celebrate every child moving on to the next age.

New Questions:
9 Why can´t the people in this community pick their own titles?
10. How do you become an Elder?

- Today Jonas dad was releasing one of the twins
- The Giver told Jonas that when he is the new Receiver, he will have access to everything
- He will able to watch releasing happening, read books
- Jonas say that he wished he could see the release and the Giver says that he can show him the release
- The Giver asked his speaker if he could see this morning release and then Jonas was watching the release
- Jonas saw a small empty room with a bed and some equipment
- Jonas recognized the scale that he had seen before when he did his volunteer hours like the Nurturing Center
- then Jonas's father came into the room in his nurturing uniform cradling one of the tiny newchild in a soft blanket, and then a women came into the room holding the other tiny newchild in a similar blanket
- they were both male
- his father weighed one and then the other
- one of them was six pounds, and the other one was five pounds
- the women took the newchild that weighed the most and cleaned him up and dressed him back to the Center
- Jonas's father keep the newchild that weighed the least and gave him a needle
- He placed the needle into the top of the newchild's forehead
- Then Jonas thought that his father was going to wrap the child up & get him ready for the ceremony because that's what his father said was going to happen but the newchild just lay there motionless
- Jonas finally realized that the newchild was dead and that his father killed him
- Jonas watched as his father put the body into a carton and put the carton down a small door in the wall
- The Giver told Jonas that when the Speaker said that Rosemary applied for release, the tape played and the Giver watched Rosemary's release
- He said that she asked if she could inject herself and she did but the Giver couldn't watch
- That's how release happens
- Release = Dies
- Jonas felt a ripping feeling inside of himself, the feeling of a terrible pain trying to get its way to come out and cry

Answers to Previous Questions:
7.

- Jonas wanted to stay with the Giver instead of going to this house because of the release he had watched
- The Giver told Jonas he could stay but he would have to notify Jonas's family
- Therefore Jonas decided to stay with the Giver for the night instead of his family unit
- The Giver told Jonas there was nothing they could do because it's the way they live
- After the Giver and Jonas eat their evening meal, they were going to make a plan, a plan is change things
- The Giver told Jonas that there might be a way for things to change
- Later that night all they did was talk and talk, Jonas being wrapped in a robe that belonged to the Giver, the robe was long like the ones that Elders wore
- The Giver and Jonas made a plan, that included Jonas running away from the community
- The Giver told Jonas that when he left there was no coming back, and all the memories that Jonas that would all go back to the community, and the Giver wouldn't go with Jonas
- When Rosemary left ten years ago, and all of her memories came back to the community everyone panicked, and when the memories return back to the community if Jonas leaves the Giver can help the community with the memories
- Jonas wanted the Giver to come with him but the Giver knew he had to stay
- Jonas said that they will just find another Receiver but the Giver told him that there was no one else with the right qualities that are required for the selection
- Then Jonas said that there is another child with pale eyes and she is a female, her name is Katherine, but the Giver told him that she was too young (only being a Six)
- The Giver could no longer see colors and that broke Jonas heart because the Giver was becoming very weak now
- Jonas reminded the Giver that when he was just a twelve and started training with the Giver, the Giver said it was different for him
- When the Giver was a little boy he had the capacity to hear - beyond, meaning he could hear music and the Giver said that he would give some of it to Jonas before he left, but Jonas wanted the Giver to have that memeory
- Then Jonas went back to his house and he got greeted by his parents
- The Giver and Jonas went over the plan over and over again the night before
- Then every time Jonas went to see the Giver, he would transfer every memory he had of being courageous, and strength for the next two weeks as the Ceremony approached
- Jonas decided that the night of the Ceremony he would leave the community, but if he would caught it wouldn't be a good thing because it was a rule that any citizen is not on official business to leave a dwelling at night
- Then he would take some extra clothes and his bike and hide it in the bushes near the riverbank and then walk to the Annex to see the Giver. The door for the Annex would be unlocked so he could get in
- In the morning, Jonas's parents would find him not in the house but find a cheerfully note saying that he just went for a early morning bike ride along the riverbank, and would be for the Ceremony
- Since Jonas wouldn't be back his parents would just go to the Ceremony with Lily and without him and his parents wouldn't tell anyone because it would reflect as his parents being bad parents
- The Giver would get something for Jonas to get away in and the Giver also has saved up food from his meals for Jonas to take with him
- Rosemary was the Giver's daughter

Prediction:
I think that Jonas might also be the Giver's child because of his eyes. Since Rosemary had pale eyes like the Giver and she was the Giver's daughter, Jonas might be his son because Jonas did have pale eyes like both of them.

Answers to Previous Questions:
34. The Giver had a spouse, and a daughter. All we know about the Giver's spouse in that she in now in the house of Childless Adults. Rosemary, the Old Receiver who failed was the Giver's daughter. If the Giver had a son, the author never told us.

New Questions:
48. Was Jonas the Giver's son?
49. What did Jonas feel when the Giver said that Rosemary was his daughter?
50. Will Jonas and the Giver's plan for Jonas to escape really work?

- It was the night that Jonas was going to leave the community but that evening meal changed everything
- The night Jonas stayed at the Annex with the Giver, Gabe stayed at the Nurturing Center to see if he could sleep without Jonas around, but it didn't go well
- Gabe cried all night and the night crew couldn't handle it
- So the they made a decision for Gabe to be released first thing tomorrow morning
- Even Jonas's father voted for the release of Gabe
- Jonas was fleeing the community he thought of all the rules he was breaking
- The first rule he broke, he was out of his dwelling at night
- The second rule he broke, he stole some of the community's food
- The third rule he broke, he stole his father's bike
- Jonas took Gabe with him
- Gabe was sound asleep because Jonas transmitted him a memory of a slow swinging hammock under palm trees to make sure that Gabe wouldn't make a peep while escaping the community
- He rode for miles
- When at was dawn, Jonas gave Gabe water from the stream and some food that they both shared
- The hardest part about this journey was the planes that passed by at night
- The planes were aircraft searchers looking if anyone was walking around at night when there suppose to be in their dwelling
- Jonas and Gabe would have to go right to the ground as soon as a plane would come by to unsure that they wouldn't get caught
- The planes used heat - seeking devices which means it could see a person's body warmth
- Whenever he heard a plane he would transmit the memory of snow to Gabe and keep some for himself
- Then the planes kept coming less and less. One day they didn't even come at all

New Questions:
51. What did Jonas find so special in Gabe that he wanted to take with him?

I think that Jonas was having a dream at the end of the book. When he reached the top of the of the hill, he fells down and just starts dreaming because it says that he felt himself loss consciousness. Also, another reason why I believe that Jonas was dreaming at the end of the book because the Giver didn't give Jonas the memory of music, (Jonas thought the Giver to keep it for himself) and if the Giver didn't give Jonas that memory how could he have heard the music. Therefore, I believe that Jonas was having a dream at the end of the book.

Most Important Theme - Self Discovery

I feel like the most important theme in the Giver was Self - Discovery. Throughout the text Jonas was discovering more and more about his community and why it wasn't right. He wanted to make different choices then what the community's choices were. At the end of the text, Jonas reached his own destiny by fleeing the community and going somewhere else. He discovered that his community was based to a wrong society. For example, if a birthmother has twins, then the twin that weighs less is released which in this community means a needle goes into the twin which kills them. Another example from the text is, at the age of Twelve they are given a assignment which is their job for the rest of their lives. This means that they don't get a choose their job it's selected for them. Also, if they want a husband or wife, they have to apply for one. They don't get to choose one themselves. But Jonas making the decision to leave his community shows that Jonas made his own choices and went down his own path and didn't follow the community.
