I slowly stepped off the boat and placed my foot on the board. Shortly after, it started to move. I grabbed the metal railing of the boats to brace myself. I then quickly placed my other foot on the soft foam board. Then I let go of the metal bar and the instructor pushed my board further away from the boat. My heart was pounding uncontrollably. 

“I can’t do this!” I shouted to my family as I tried to balance on the board. I started to shake with fear knowing I would need to paddle soon. 

As my board drifted, I got further and further away. I was still unable to move. I saw the giant smiles on my parents’ faces. They then began shouting, “Go Kim, Go!” I bent down slowly to pick up the paddle. As I did, my foot slipped on the smooth wet board and I tumbled into the cold water below. Splash!
