Cayden is a 14 yr old boy who struggles with ADHD and heightened anxiety and recently it was confirmed he has scoliosis. Cayden has scored high on state assessments and is top 20% of grades and test scores. Cayden is a very involved with sports year round. Cayden has many groups of friends and loves to talk.

Cayden plays soccer year-round. But is also involved in swimming, track, and cross country. Overall Cayden loves being outside. At times Cayden is interested in art, whether that is drawing, coloring, or some sort of clay making at school. On the weekends he is usually busy with friends.

Even though Cayden scores high on state assessments and major test, he struggles with daily class work and homework being turned in. Teachers also feel like he can be a class disruption even though that is not his intent.

Cayden struggles with verbal communication and has difficulty remembering things when asked to. Cayden struggles to remain on task for a lengthy amount of time and often loses focus. Cayden tends to fidget and has a hard time sitting for class. Tends to talk often on things that are not related to what is being taught during class time.

I would do math review with partners. I would print out review math problems before hand and place them around the classroom (high and low). The partners would have to get up and move around the room to search for the math problems. They would need to complete and show their work of 3 problems and come check in with me.

Language Arts

Since Cayden struggles with attention and movement I think finding a novel that he could relate to would be a great. Letting him take breaks through out class might help him focus on the reading. Trying to find an audio book maybe since he struggles with verbal communication that is given to him.

By having partner work this helps with Cayden staying on track and being able to be up out of his seat and moving around. Having the 3 questions solve and then check in with me allows time for one on one.

Giving tools or techniques for Cayden to learn to help cope or control his body movements better in class as to not be a distraction for classmates or teacher.

When finishing reading a book instead of just writing a general paper that overviews the book put a twist on it. Have him dress up as the character to retell for the class, or if needed have him write a letter to one of the characters of the book. This would help test for the teaching strategy of show and tell.

Social Studies usually works with the history and the places around the world. When introducing the different cultures from around the world try to hit on the hobbies that are known in that region

Have a globe in the classroom and let the kids point to the globe as we do review questions. Have the kids make up their own review questions and ask them it during review time.

Since I know Cayden enjoys expressing through art, I would present the opportunity of letting him use color pencils or markers to draw images of things he enjoys or likes. With no words.

I think a fun activity that I have personally enjoyed is playing friend bingo. It gets the kids up out of their seat and a chance to ask questions to find someone to mark out their box.

I feel like the best teaching strategy for this would be productive group work. This helps provide time to help with positive reinforcement from the teacher in a smaller setting. With Cayden being active in sports he will be familiar with team building and how to work together.

When introducing a new sport, ask the class who is currently playing that sport? Another way would be tie in a history of a famous sports player for that sport and have their picture up during that sport lesson plan.

A way to assest would be effort given in class. Not every student is going to be athletic but measure with effort and attitude and if the student dressed out in pe clothes to come to class prepared is how I would asset.
