Sally Deng attempts to spread light on Chinese women immigrants and challenge the traditional values and stereotypes set on them by painting the women in places of empowerment. She paints about globalisation and the effect of humans on nature and to each other. Sally Deng makes us question our place in the world and the security we have in it.

Sally’s curiosity with people and her community leads her to investigate the relationship between individuals and their environment. Each drawing has its own story, and she takes a lot of time attempting to understand the interaction between people.

She believes that body language, and how a person interacts does not just suggest an identity of the individual but also the relationship between different subjects within the image.

Sally Deng uses bright and vivid colours to represent the joy and energy found in life and contrasts it with dull and dry paint strokes to convey the detachment of life. She also uses a transparent hand being grasped and held by the pale olive gives a sense of longing and connection.

Issues addressed: Privileged people, and the immigrants. all the immigrants are suffering,, begging for help, but the privileged could not care less about it. tis represents issues that exists in today's world, especially in the US, where sally Deng is living in.
