This subject also integrates social justice (e.g. antiracism and disabilities studies) in order to enhance the healthcare system for marginalized groups. Not only does this make health professionals aware of the discrimination or disadvantages that their patients face, but professionals are better able to understand, comprehend, and empathize with them. For instance, this is extremely helpful in the field of psychiatry. Treating mental health crises is a challenging endeavor that, if done incorrectly, can be detrimental to a patient’s health. As a result, a psychiatrist must be able to absorb, comprehend, and respond meaningfully and compassionately to their patients’ stories. However, the Global Health Humanities is a medical education in addition to the liberal arts including but not limited to literature, history, philosophy, religion, and the social sciences. This holistic approach to healthcare helps practicing medical professionals offer care in addition to the treatment they provide. In other words, it helps teach the intangibles of healthcare and wellness that are sometimes essential to healing a patient. 
Not only does Global Health Humanities teach how to provide true care for patients, but it also teaches healthcare from a global perspective. It illuminates how a relatively small healthcare decision falls into perspective within the large landscape of global health. Such a perspective offers an understanding to the practice of medicine that can easily be overlooked. For example, a diagnosis for diabetes may appear one dimensional, but it is not isolated and can be relevant to a study of the disease, may indicate cultural habits, or even contribute to current medical trends of an entire country. Country-wide trends are important for global statistics, so really, it’s all connected. The health professions are not one-dimensional, and a study of the Global Health Humanities teaches multi-dimensional aspects of healthcare and caregiving.

Instead of solely focusing on the scientific and clinical aspects of healthcare, the Health Humanities tie in philosophy, english, history, religion, and many other disciplines. This viewpoint forces practitioners to dig deeper than simply a diagnosis and encourages them to truly get to know their patients' stories. As we enter an age where we are focused on streamlining medicine, increasing profits, and relying on automation, the Health Humanities are even more necessary. The importance of hope and joy to the healing process cannot be ignored and so when patients are treated in this more humanizing and empathetical way, we are able to help more people recover from diseases. Even though more people are beginning to  become aware of it nowadays, there are still hindrances that prevent people from getting the help they need. These could be due to  financial problems, accessibility issues (there are countries with not so many counsellors and therapists) ,social myths, lack of adequate awareness and many other factors. It is the intersection of human care between the sciences and the humanities. As technology and the sciences progress the medical field has developed tunnel vision on improving research, health humanities rebalances health care by placing equal importance on the individual and the human experience of treatment. For example in the past decade we have developed the science behind end of life care, designer babies, and genetic testing for certain genes. When the health humanities are applied to these topics we are no longer discussing their possibilities but also looking into the ethics and how it would effect the human experience. Although many of these ideas are new possibilities in the medical world they are well versed topics in the humanities. When adding studies of philosophy, religion, literature, and history to the education of medicine you are no longer just learning what a disease is or possible treatments, but also how to treat the person. Health humanities leds to a more educated and inclusive world of medicine where patients are seen as individuals instead of a number in a research. It takes into account the complexity of human existence and how race, religion, culture, mental health plays an equal importance in treatment.
