Life in the workhouse is very hard for Oliver and the other orphans, one day Oliver asks for more food, but instead of getting food he gets nothing but a dark room because it was forbidden to ask for more.
Poor Oliver is very sad 'cause he is now with Mr. Sowerberry and Mrs. Sowerberry and another kid named Noah, but Noah insults Oliver's mother and calls her names and Oliver is definitely not happy about that, so Oliver fights Noah but Mrs. Sowerberry stops them and puts Oliver in a room, since she forgets to lock the door Oliver runs away.
Chapter. 2 A new family
On the way, Oliver meets Dodger, they become immidiately friends and so Dodger invites Oliver to come live with him and some other boys in London.
When they arrive, Oliver meets Fagin, an old man who is the boss of all the boys in the house.
Fagin has a lot of handkerchiefs and the other boys, Dodger included, start to take the handkerchiefs.
Fagin one day sends Oliver, Dodger and another boy to the city and they go to a bookshop, meanwhile they're in the bookshop, Dodger steals a rich mans handkierchief but he noticed immidiately and the 2 boys run away, so oliver is considered the thief and goes to prison, but the bookshop owner testify that the real thief has run away so the police realeses Oliver, and Mr. Brownlow takes him home.
Chapter. 3 The big house 
Fagin isn't very happy for Oliver, quite the contrary, hes real mad with him so Fagin calls Bill sikes, a guy that works for him and he tells Bill that he must get Oliver back so Bill and his girlfriend go search for him in the city center and after weeks of research they finally see him, they fake to be his sister and brother so people woudn't suspect they were kidnapping Oliver, since he is back at Fagin's, Bill decided to use Oliver to rob a house but one of the servants heard footsteps and shoots Oliver in the shoulder, Bill doesn't want to go to prison so he leaves Oliver behind.
Oliver asks for help to the owners of the house, Mrs. Maylie and Mrs. Rose, they help Oliver and take him home with them. 
after a while, Oliver is happy again because he got a family but one night when hes about to fall asleep he sees fagin out the window.
Chapter. 4 A secret brother 
Fagin is angry that Oliver isn't living with him so he goes to visit a man called Monks and he tells him that Oliver isn't living with him, so he goes to Mr. Bumble to get some informations about Oliver. Once he arrived Mrs Bumble ssells Monks the things that belonged to Oliver's mother and trows them in the river. Nancy, Bill's girlfriend, hears that Fagin and Monks know were's Oliver and that they want to do bad things to him so she decides to help Oliver. 
Chapter. 5 Poor Nancy
She meets Mr. Brownlow and nancy at the London bridge and tells them about what Fagin wants to do to Oliver, but she don't say nothing about Bill because she loves him. When she returnes home Fagin's very angry and tells her that one of fagins boys followed her and then he hits her over and over again until she dies. Bill's now scared and he calls his dog and they leave the city, in London everyone is talking about Nancy. Mr.Brownlow and Rose decide to go to the adress tha Nancy gave them, once they arrive they see Monks sitting on a bed so Mr. Brownlow takes him to his house. Once they arrive Monks sees a picture of Agnes, Oliver's mother, Monks father Edwin wasn't happy with his wife so  he left her and he meet Agnes, they wanted to marry but Edwin died in Italy so they didn't. Monks is sorry but he must make things better with Oliver.
Chapter. 6 The end of the story 
Bill go back to London to speak to Fagin but he's in prison, so he go to Toby's house. He wanted to let bullseye in the woods but he's already there. There is also Charley that don't want to help Bill because he killed Nancy. There is a large group of angry people who wants Bill, Charley starts to shout that Bill is there, soo he decides to go onto the roof, he's got a rope. He puts the rope around his waist, he loses his balance and he fell, the rope goes around his neck and he dies. The police arrives so Toby and Charley run away from London and Charley become a farmer. Fagin's in prison and he's hanged, Dodger stays in prison for a long time beu doesn't die. Monks sings a document to give all his father money to Oliver. Rose goes to Mr. Brownlow house and sees a picture of her sister, Agnes. Rose is Oliver's aunt, now he's got a father and a aunt. Rose marries Harry, Ms. Maylie son and they live happily. Thousands of families left the country to go and work in factories in the cities. Many of them were children and child labour became a big social problem.  The families would send their children to work because they needed the money, they worked long hours in terrible conditions and the factory owners paid them very little money. There were some serious accidents and some children died. The children who didn't work in factories sold flowers and newspapers on the street, or they were orphans like Oliver Twist, and became young thives. In 1870 Dr Thomas Bernardo opened the first home for poor boys in London, and gave them food an a warm place to stay, in the same year the British governament passed the education act, which said all children between the ages of 5 and 10 must attend school. The education was not free and poor families could not send their children to school , fortunately after 1891 school became free for all children. 
Before 1891, there were 2 children labors that were the most popular in the country: Mudlarks and Chimney sweeps.
The mudlarks, as the name says, were children who worked in the mud at shore of the river Thames, with long poles to pull out the water jewelry and valuable objects.
Most of the children were only 8 or even 7 years old and the majority of them couldn't even swim, so it was very dangerous and slippery.
The chimney sweeps were little boys who cleaned the insides of the chimneys, since in those years the only way to stay warm was having a lit fireplace, they were very dirty, so the boys had to clean them for money.
