When reading the title of this article, I see disciplines this word, then I quickly connect it with different subjects, such as math, literacy, unit of inquiry, music, art, ect. What is vocabulary comprehension? Knowing the definiton of a word is not enough to help students to understand the context. Our learners will need to comprehend the word, which means how to apply it when reading or writing. I predict that this article is giving suggestions/instructions to teachers how to teach students to comprehend new vocabularies.

In this article, Janis Harmon and Karen Wood explaine different ways to help students to inhence their comprehension of vocabulaires.
In regard to different disciplines, there are two major categories of vocabulary—the specific academic vocabulariesassociated with particular disciplines as well asgeneral vocabularies shared by the disciplines.
The researchers recommend https://visuwords.com and visualthesaurus.com for a visual mindmap of a word.
It's important for teachers to choose words and phrases carefully, words should relate to conceptual learning (i.e., technical words) and those that build upon the reader’s linguistic knowledge (i.e., general academic vocabulary).
Using a knowledge rating scale would a good idea to check students background knowledge.
Make sure use a kids-friendly definiton, websites like:https://kids.wordsmyth.net/we/ and https://www.britannica.com/dictionary would be some good resources.
