The Ethiopian civil war has been going on for over a year.  Eight year olds like giving away their candy.  Teenagers don't even know what jobs they want.

Three things I learned:
  1. The Ethiopian Civil War. The exact details about the war aren't kid-friendly, but I'm just going to say millions of people left their homes and that many innocent people were executed in mass killings. I hope this war settles down or goes away.
  2. The Unimate Robot made in the 1950s (the one in the little 10-second trivia question). It turns out that the robot was intended to be used in putting together car parts. It is a robot arm that was capable of putting together 110 cars per hour! Wow! According to invent.org: "The Unimate robot paved the way for today's automatic production lines in many industries." 
  3. The third-grade trick-or-treaters who donated candy. When a house's candy bowl was empty, they decided to give some of their candy away so that others could get some, rather than walking away or doing nothing. That is a very kind act out of selflessness!

Two things I already knew:

  1. The Labor Shortage. I've already heard about it on the news, but I didn't know that there could be over 2 million jobs open by 2030! According to some estimates, there could also be 1 trillion dollars lost in the economy from the labor shortage! That is so much...
  2. The hovercraft at the end of the video. Speaking of hovercraft, ever heard of the Jetson One? It is a drone (it has four propellers!), that is big enough to fit an entire person! Since it is a drone, you don't have to get a helicopter license. You can fly it anywhere!* And it is selling for only $100,000! (That may seem like a lot, but an average helicopter sells for 1.7 million.) It's pretty cool!


One AHA moment:

  1. Joshua, you picked a good picture of the robot falling in the padlet. It was the funniest thing I've seen in a while, lol.
