This movie seems to say about self-discovery. I think this because the little girl and the turtle seemed to find their purpose, as well as why it is important to help one another. For example, at the beginning of the video, the little turtle needed help getting to the see because of all the predators. Moana decided to help the baby turtle by protecting it with a big leaf. After all the beautiful things Moana saw in the ocean, she saw what the baby turtle could do with beautiful sea features. In the end, the turtle helped Moana get back to shore.

Identity plays a key role in this movie because throughout the plot Moana was trying to find who she was and what she has to become. At the beginning of the movie she finds herself near the ocean and discovers that's where her happy place is. Throughout the movie she is trying to figure out why and who she is, by going through different obstacles and challenges. She realizes that she becomes a big role in her village just like her grandmother was.

I think that this changes the way I view what goes into movies because it takes a lot more thought than I knew about. When the script is written, the people writing the script have to visualize what they want the movie or scene to look like, and incorporate the story into that. They can let the animators create the scene with elements even more true to the story then without the visualizations in the script. It also allows the voice actors to use certain elements of emotion and change the tone of their voice based on what the scene will look like, and the visualizations in the script allow the actors to know that without seeing the scene.

This video really helped me view the scene differently because it introduced me to new themes and ideas. When Moana was challenged with the chance of grabbing the shell, or helping a turtle reach the ocean. It reminded me of concepts I was taught, where if you do something nice you’ll get it in return. And I kinda needed that reminder recently. This scene somehow portrays so many different figurative concepts while maintaining a 0 dialect scene. And that really brings the idea of youth and exploring new ideas into a new light by bringing different stories into its context. (i felt really smart while writing this)

I believe that the video with the script emphasizes the main character, Moana’s destiny to save Fiti. At the beginning of the video, the character Gramma Tala tells Moana and the other village children the story of how someone will one day find the heart of Te Fiti and use it to save their home. Little kid Moana then goes to the ocean and sees a shell in the ocean, and when she goes to get it, the water parted away between her and the shell (forming a canyon of water), and when she was far enough out, the water bestowed the very Heart of Te Fiti that was foretold by Tala. The fact that we get to hear the story and then see Moana obtain the heart show’s that she plays a key role in saving her home, and that it’s her destiny to do so. Those two events happening at the beginning of the movie are not a coincidence, but a foundation of the movie , which is that Moana is destined to try to save her home.

When “the ocean magically recedes” it doesn’t just do that to anyone. It’s not everyday that an ocean magically makes way for you to walk and grab a valuable item. That right there is called destiny and showcasing she is the chosen one, and not someone like her father.

I believe that this movie seemed to express the power of destiny, as I can see how this clip from the beginning of the movie foreshadows the journey Moana will endure later in the film. In the clip, we see baby Moana being curious about the ocean and looking at seashells that were being offered to her by the ocean. Yet, for a small, yet significant amount of time, she was intrigued by the heart of Tefiti. This encounter between Moana and the heart of Tefiti can show as about the power of destiny, as it suggests to us from watching the whole movie that Moana had always been fated to be the one who returned the heart back to its place. Baby Moana’s clip could seem an unimportant moment at first, but after reflecting on the movie, I realize how Moana’s predetermined fate occurred over a course of events, and that since she was very small, she had always been meant to leave her island to be a hero in her future.

I believe that this move says a lot about power. In Moana’s case, it says that you don’t have to be physically strong or have a lot of experience to be powerful. She was a literal child who didn’t know how to sail a boat. Yet she managed to save the world. Even Maui, who was an actual demigod who was ridiculously strong, had been sailing for like 2000 years, and had magic powers, couldn’t do anything without Moana. This movie has a great overlying idea that power can mean other things. It also shows that 2 complete strangers can be equally powerful together.

The ability to tread the script does seem to change the way you see the view movie/video. The script gives you the power to know exactly what is happening and what is going to happen. You no longer have to wonder, what’s going to happen next, you get a glimpse into the future with the script. I think the writing of the script could have been changed, after they started making a movie. I think this because maybe when they used the original script it could have been not as pleasant to watch compared to the edited version.

Before seeing the script for this movie, I had always assumed that it was Moana’s destiny to be the one the ocean chose. However, this video suggests that Moana herself made that her destiny. The line as she is protecting the baby turtle, “And the ocean...seems to be watching” implies that because of this act, and ones similar to it, the ocean decided to trust her with the Heart-she wasn’t simply destined to it. She unknowingly chose her destiny by protecting and engaging with the ocean. When she has doubts later in the movie, it is once again proved that Moana had to be the one to choose her destiny, as she temporarily gives up the Heart. Nothing forces her to take it back, but she decides to and therefore confirms being the ocean’s chosen one as her destiny.

This video/movie seems to say that power can be kindness, not just strength. In this clip, we can see young Moana playing on the beach. The struggles of a baby turtle catch her eyes and she decides to help the turtle. As a result, the ocean decides to help her and reveals to her the “Heart of the Fiti”. This scene shows the connection between her kindness and the power of “Heart of the Fiti”. Later on in the movie, during their battle with the “evil” Te Fiti. Moana’s kindness in returning the heart is what ultimately brings peace to the islands and saves her village. The power of kindness outshined any other power, including Mowi’s strength. Before this scene, Mowi ( idk if that is spelled right) tries using brute force on Te Fiti in order to subdue her but it doesn’t work, only Moana’s kindness restores balance.

The ability to read the script as the movie played made me realize how much of a movie is dependent on character’s behavior, actions, and interactions. Reading the script doesn’t paint the whole picture of the movie. The movie really comes alives when the directing crew, and the animators put life into by giving the characters their uniqueness. For example, in the opening scene of the script the Grandmother speaks of a story. However, just reading from the script you wouldn’t know if this was a horror story or folklore. The animators and the director's vision really give the movie its tone. Same is the case with character interactions. Depending on their facial features and reactions you can tell what a character is like, which is something that needs to be added by the animating crew and director.

One example of this is where Moana’s father and her people want her to stay on the island where it is safe, but Moana knows that is not what her heart is telling her to do. She then creates her own destiny by going to the water to save her people. This movie is full of how Moana made her own destiny by going out and doing what her heart was telling her to do.

Moana has all these things that she’s supposed to be, like a weaver or a leader or the savior of nature itself. In the beginning, everyone told her she had to be the leader of her island and that she had to stay put, but she ran away, overwhelmed by the conflicting wants of herself and her people, and eventually met this demigod who didn’t know who he was either. He was born to humans but discarded, found by the gods but shunned, was a hero to the humans but now a villain. Over the course of the movie, Moana eventually helps Maui see that he’s more than just a magical hook or a legend, especially when his hook shatters and he has to prove himself without the help of the gods or humans. And he helps Moana see that she can be the leader of her people and sail the ocean, guiding her island to a brighter future now that she knows what she wants and who she wants to be. Her grandmother(RIP granny) always pushed her to find out who she is, giving Moana advice that she needs to be a better leader. Moana acts as that person for Maui, who doesn’t have a magical ocean grandma to help him find out his sense of self, and she pushes him to figure out who he is and what he wants.

I think that the ability to read the script as the movie was playing is helpful because it shows not only the words being spoken, but also the actions. I liked that the script had the actions of inanimate things such as the ocean. “The ocean magically recedes, offering Moana the Conch Shell she passed up.” I really love the wording in this sentence because it perfectly explains what is happening in the film. The script gives us deeper understanding of what is going on. The words in the script give the viewer more than just the actions in the movie.

I think that the video makes references to Moana’s destiny, as it shows the ocean deciding whether or not she is worthy of it. It gave her the option of the conch shell or saving the turtle, sort of like a test to decide. When it decides she is worthy, It gave her the green stone, which sort of marked her destiny.

Moana has always been one of my favorite comfort movies and I think it's so easy to watch and enjoy. It goes through and tells a story about a girl that wants one thing so bad but she knows she must do the other. Through this movie and the small clip that we watched, the whole thing really seems to talk about self-discovery and identification. As I said before, Moana is pushed through life having a legacy to fulfill but what if Moana wants something else for herself. Moana from the age of 2 knew the ocean was her home and knew that she would discover who she truly is out there in the water. She identifies as a normal girl who is doing her best to keep her community strong and healthy but to do so she must find out who she is to keep her and her people alive. Moana gets the help of some friends and loved ones to save her people because she is a leader and savior to them all. When she finally returns home she has accomplished something everyone thought was impossible. She found herself because she was brave enough to take the risk and follow her journey of self identification.

To me the video clip is about destiny. It seemed like the ocean was testing her on whether she would help save someone in need (the turtle) or grab the shell that was slowly drifting away. She chose to save the turtle which represents her saving a part of nature convincing the ocean to make her the saver and returning the heart back to Te Fiti. I believe the ocean saw something in her to officially give her the heart.

The video/movie clip seems to say that in order to find your destiny, you need to help others to discover it.. In the video clip, we see Moana as a kid trying to get a seashell. However, when she sees a baby sea turtle and instead of trying to get the thing she treasures, she instead helps out the sea turtle. After she saves the turtle, she moves on and tries to get the shell, which she does successfully. As soon as she got it, the sea started moving and was making a path with shells at each end. When Moana goes to the final end, the sea starts playing with her and gives her the Te Fiti stone. This was the destiny of Moana and the sea choose her because she was helpful to others.

The ability to read the script did change the way I viewed movies by making me realise how much effort the script writers put into a movie. I assumed that the script writers only job was to just come up with some dialogue for the characters to say. I thought that it would be an easy job, but after seeing the script I now realize that it is much more difficult then I imagined. A script writer has to write everything about the characters and the scene, from the facial expressions to what their movements are. Being able to see the script really shows all the work writers put into movies.

The animator's job was to translate/interpret what the screenwriter wrote down, and the purpose of the writing is to translate the scene they had thought of in their head onto paper.

I think what the scenes say to me is that maybe destiny isn’t really something set for us in the future, but rather a product of our will and personalities that drive us to do things. Moana wasn’t necessarily chosen, but her natural interest in the sea and bravery led to her being drawn to it.

The ability to read the script as I read the movie did change the way I view movies. It made me think deeper about the message and surroundings in the movie. I have seen Moana before but I never thought much about how her helping the turtle played a role in the ocean giving her the shells. This makes me think about how in other movies maybe something impacted something else that brought about a change but I didn’t realize because it seemed innocent. I enjoyed reading the script because it brought more meaning to what I was watching. I think scripts play a big role in something that might be turned into a visual representation because they can be interpreted differently, and bring more meaning to what they are presenting visually.
