The god of the winds, Aeolus helps Odysseus by giving him a bag of all the winds except for the favorable west wind.
Plot Points: "...the realm and region of the Men of winter..." (Homer 969). Odysseus and his men are headed to and entering the land of the dead or Hades realm.
Values: "I pray,, do not abandon me unwept, unburied..." (Homer 972). Odysseus didn't follow the value of death and the dead deserving a proper burial.
Characteristics:"...Odysseus's men open the sack..." (Homer 969).

Role of the Gods: "Helios; and no man avoids his eye." (Homer 981) Odysseus is talking about how Helios misses nothing man does so to be careful and follow the rules.
Hero's Journey Plot Points: "If he flares up over his heifers lost, wishing our ship destroyed... better open our lungs to a big sea..." (Homer 981). One of Odysseuses' men, Eurylochus, talks about how they are going to kill Helios' cattle despite orders not to, this is to test how well they obey orders and Odysseus' leadership.
Values: "You've gone through everything... All deaths hateful... but famine is the most pitiful..." (Homer 981) This is trying to draw courage from the men there for is displaying the greek value of courage.
Characteristics: "I faced each man... but where could remedy be found? There was none..." (Homer 984). The characteristic was a character flaw in Odysseus' men as they, yet again, could not follow orders!
