The storming of the Bastille happened when revolutionary insurgents attempted to storm and seize control of the medieval armory, fortress and political prison known as the bastille. It happened because people feared that King Louis XVI was about to arrest France's newly constituted National Assembly.

In that time, he reformed the French education system, developed a civil code (the Napoleonic code), and negotiated the Concordat of 1801. His rise as the sole ruler of France was due to the power and popularity he gained as the foremost military leader.

France Supports the American Revolution, 1778-1772
