Although there is manny similarities between the book, the book didn't mention very important history occurrences that could've changed the books whole plot. One of this is the assassinations of JFK and Martin Luther King. It also didn't mention toys at all. Boys likes to play war. Girls loved kitchen sets. One other think they didn't mention is sports. The foot ball team that was large was the Green Bay Packers. The basketball team was the celtics.

The author S. E. Hinton Wrote the book The Outsiders. She included some aspects of the 1960-70's in her story. Some of these details are introduced by her characters. One of thees details is their fashion. For example the popular hair style was a bowl cut resembling the Beatles bowl cut. And they wore leather jackets which was popular at the time. And they were greasers. The whole idea of the greaser look was "in" then so the whole characters in the gang were from back then. All these details prove that she based this book off these ages.
