My name is Reece, I'm a freshman, and I think that latino and black communities are hit harder by COVID-19 because they often times forced to live in the most polluted areas, which weakens lungs and immune systems, which in turn makes them more susceptible to COVID-19.

Toby, 12th Grade

I think that people of color have had a worse response to COVID-19 because low income housing tends to have more people of color living there and in spaces like that it's harder to social distance yourself and it's likely that you will be living with other people if you live in public housing. Also if you are in a low income community it's unlikely that you will be working from home which means you will be exposed to the virus more. Also in certain hospitals there are biased medical professionals who do not provide equal care to people of color.

I think that because there is a higher percentage of Black/Latinos below the poverty line, for instance, many do not have the proper resources available to say other's above the poverty line, like doctors, basic hygiene, and without these things it is more likely to get COVID.

I think different communities have different facilities which can change the way that they handle different situations during a pandemic and if they do not have resources available to treat COVID there is a higher chance of death. A lot of predominantly black and LatinX communities are more susceptible to these types of problems because of poverty and the lack of emergency services present.

It makes sense as, typically, people of color are less likely to have a job that is as high of a caliber as their white counterparts due to their limited opportunites. Therefore, they are forced to live in neighborhoods that are less sanitary not maintained.

I think that the reason of which black and Latino people are hit harder by COVID-19 is because in many cases they are enforced to live in low maintenance areas because of systemic racism, (lack of opportunity) which can affect they way in which their bodies react to COVID-19, as they could already be weakened as the result of the lack of cleanliness.
