The image of the vulture looking over the clearly starving child is an eerie scene, and it clearly draws emotion out of the viewer, wishing that they could do something. It broke my heart even more to find out that child was crawling over to the feeding station, and that the photographer could do nothing but scare away the vulture, since many of the children had severe diseases that the photographer could not risk contracting. The photograph contains so much emotion, with the surprised bystander’s faces contrasting the calm and relaxed face of the monk on fire. Details such as the blood on the soldier’s boots and the girl’s hands and face, in addition to the girls scared face face looking directly into the camera  makes the photo almost regretful to look at which is likely what the photographer wanted from the viewer. The droplet of milk on the table is perfectly symmetrical, and its crown-like formation is mesmerizing. I was personally surprised that this photo was one of the many that would help scientists better understand physics, which was a concept that was interesting to me. The day of the shoot, I had taken a small reflector and a tripod in case the lighting had not been as bright as I planned. Luckily, I did not need neither of the tools, and was able to achieve some perfect exposures (with a little help from Adobe Lightroom). Before this photo was captured, I had experimented with taking photos with different props, poses, angles, and facial expressions. Photos were shot throughout the day from early afternoon till sunset. Out of the 375+ photos taken, I felt that this one was the most appropriate for the assignment.

I thought that it was a ton of fun to do this photo shoot (for both me and the model). We were able to prepare all of the food ahead of time, and were able to consume it during and after the shoot. We were able to play around with a multitude of different foods and poses, and there was a seemingly endless amount of different photos we could take. What did I learn? If there is tasty food to be offered, the model will be extra committed and even more immersed in the shoot. What wasn’t fun though, was that my SD card was corrupted the first time I had shot photos. I was able to learn from this though, and the next day I already knew what worked and what didn’t, meaning that I could quickly capture the photos I knew I wanted and could even try more new things out.
