Poisonous plants

Poison oak is a woody vine or shrub. They grow in the woods or by trees. If you get in contact with the plant or smoke inhalation you will get a rash and itchy.

Poison sumac are shrubs or small trees. They grow small berries on them. Both the berries and leaves are poison. They grow in the woods. When inhalation on smoke you get a rash that appears on the lining of the lungs causing extreme pain and possibly fetal. All parts of the plant contain a resin called urushiul that cause skin and mucous membrance irritation to humans.

Wild parsnips look like a dill plant or queen anne’s lace. It is yellow and can grow about 4 feet. It looks like a rash. It’s a constant burning it bubbles up overnight. The oils sit on your skin and it eats away your skin. It grows in woods and yards. Roots can be eaten but just a little or it can kill ya.

Edible plants
Dandelions they are a weed you can eat the whole thing roots, leave and flower. They are a cure all in herbal medicine. It grows in pretty much all over.

Lamb’s quarter they are a weed you eat the leaves. This plant is a relative of wild spinach. It grows about 2 to 6 feet high. It grows pretty much all over. It is rich in iron and vitamin B2.

 

First aid

Hypothermia is potentially dangerous drop in body temperature. Symptoms of hypothermia is shivering, slow shallow breathing, confusion, drowsiness, mumbled speech and a slow weak pulse. If wet take off wet stuff and get dry and warm clothes on get warm liquids and get somewhere warm. 

Frostbite is caused by two different means cell death at the time of exposure and further cell deterioration and death because of a lack of oxygen. Get somewhere warm and get your body warm.

Dehydration is when the body losses fluids mostly water. You can get dehydration from fever, heat, exposure, vomiting, diarrhea, and not having water. You will get dry mouth, weakness, dizziness, fainting, and decrease urine. Get fluids in and get the person to help.

Blisters first sign are hot spots and slight pain. Remove shoe and let the skin dry. Alcohol pads are useful to scrub the affected area. Put a dressing on the area to help it heal.

Cuts and scrapes if its bleeding stop it by pushing down on it. When it stops try to clean the area with clean water and soap if you have it. If water isn’t available you can use fresh urine to clean the cut. Put some kind of dressing on it until you can get help or get home to put meds on it.
