UDL incorporates proactive planning that creates a variety of instructional strategies, tools, assistive technologies and assessments that support a variety of diverse students needs.
Planning ahead of time takes up less time then reacting later on to what each child needs. The more diverse your approaches are to instruction and practice the more likely more students will succeed.
It is always helpful to gather feedback from students and monitor the effectiveness of each strategy.

School is an important place for children to grow not only in academics but in social emotional development as well. Friendships cannot be forced but teachers can create a welcoming environment that is accepting and comfortable for everyone to get along. In addition we can create opportunities for social interactions through group work, pair work, role playing, problem solving, creating an open place for everyone to share and listen to each other.

It was helpful to walk through a step by step process of creating a full lesson. To start the teacher must select appropriate lesson objectives and introduce these objectives by finding out what background knowledge your students' have and connecting it back to them lesson. Next, you introduce new information in a variety of different ways and provide several opportunities for modeling and questions. Allow students to demonstrate their knowledge in a variety of ways such as a quiz, exercise, verbal explanation etc. Then come back at the end to review the important parts.

We assess our students to gauge what they know and what they can do. It is important that we show our students that we have high expectations for them to succeed. We can informally assess them throughout the year with observations, conversations and interactions or gather formal information through quizzes, tests and projects. This can show if a student may need more or less support. It can also show if they are ready to move on.
